Why do we bother?? I went to visit my youngster, Freya, last night, who is being looked after by my friend (v experienced and a lovely and sympathetic rider etc) and the mare is being a cow. Napping, bucking, and generally being a right arse, I suspect she may have hit the tantrum stage.
I rode out on her with friend and she was fine for me out, but then went into the school and she napped, and bucked and pi55ed about. Eventually got some semblence of control albeit with very bad grace, and one near miss involving bucks and lost stirrups! I don't think the bucking is to get me off, rather that she's having a paddy. She's never yet got anyone off through bad behaviour, although my sister came off her whilst trying to jump in the summer. Seems like Freya has had a personality change, and I don't know what's going with the napping

Then when I got back up to my yard to do my other mare, she had a tooty on, tried to double barrel me in the gateway, then buggered off and tried to kick at me everytime I went to catch her. Ended up losing my temper and giving her a bash with the pitchfork, about which I feel terrible

We did finish on a good note with her being affectionate but I feel awful, although she did boot at me with intent and for no reason at all
