My yard can be quite busy during summer with horses going out to shows, new horses coming in for a bit of makeovers and training etc and then my neighbours yard is the same so very busy area. My little mare is the only one who is here 24/7 and she is stabled when necessary with my gelding (with a low partition between them so they can see each-other and touch noses)

Shes an old grumpy type and doesn't like all this fuss and i can't blame her, so i've put her in the back paddock to have a bit of head space. She has access to the fence where she can see all the other horses and there is one she can touch noses with, but so far has chosen to stay behind the shed totally out of the way and not seeing anyone. Has not called out once, or looked anxious. She did give me a little greeting nicker when i went to check her and a cuddle (not been doing that lately) seems she just needs a little break bless her!

Some horses don't like busy yards and it sounds like your little one just needed some breathing space away from it all!

Yep definitely. Only two more shows left and one mare to come to the yard, so will all settle down after that and she should be happier!

My old gelding was like this, he was rather grumpy and liked his own company, he was often seen on the far end of the large field wile the rest round all hover over the gate waiting for some one who they could raid for treats!!

your little mare is a lovely colour!!

My horse hates other horses. Sharing a field makes her ill.

In the trailer she is ok if she can't see the other horse.

She is the friendliest most lovely natured animal to anything other than horses. She hates other horses. Loves the rest of the world.

Do you keep her alone then?

Your horse will let you know if they are not happy with the arrangements and if he/she is happy grazing on their own for some peace and quiet then fair enough. My lad does not tolerate other horses at all and so is on his own and perfectly happy for it.

She usually does like company but I think she misses the mare that was here. They had got quite close. She finally brought herself in at like 10pm haha
