Thought it would be nice to share experiences with those who are feeling low at the moment and are not able to be out and about with their poorly horses, seen from threads there are lots of us on here at the moment, so as moral support thought would be nice to know we are all going through it together and can offer hints and tips on entertaining them so here goes.

Our 16h TB eventer is on paddock rest for the summer with PSD of the hinds and more worryingly he has fragmentation of the pedal bone in the near fore and bone oedema so will be a long slow road to recovery. Our loan horse 16.1 ID/TB eventer is into his third week of box rest with a swollen pastern, due to be Xrayed on Monday.

Best wishes to all with resting horses hope they make a full and speedy recovery xc

Mine is on his third week of box rest with a further 3 to go before very limited turn out for another 6 weeks. He had kissing spine surgery at the end of June but seems to be progressing well and even though he is usually a hyperactive lad he seems to be coping with box rest very well.

As I have to walk him in hand every day it is keeping me occupied so the time seems to be going by quite quickly at the moment. Fingers crossed that I can ride again in October.

Tell me about it.... im feeling really gutted at moment my eventer has been lame with soft tissue injurys in his feet...

He has been in field now for 10wks and still lame...

Im dreading him not coming right tbh.

Missing my competing desperately.

My cob is on box rest with collateral ligament damage in his hock,he has been on box rest for a month with no sign of improvemnt

and he is not happy i tell you!! try keeping a cob locked up,he kicks the door all the time wanting hay,its a nightmare!
I asked the vet if he could go into a small paddock as bix rest is not improving his hock, but she was not keen.

Hmm I know, our fella paces round and round his box and makes a moat because he wees and wees LOL, I have used 10 bales of shavings for him alone so far this month just topping up his bed. Hoping he can go out on paddock rest after Xrays on Monday

My mare is in her 2nd week of box rest for a bone chip/fragment in her hind cannon bone and a tendon strain in the same leg.

Got 2 and a 1/2 more weeks of box rest then 2 weeks of restricted turnout.

She is allowed out for grass twice a day in hand which is not fun for me when its chucking it down!!

She is coping suprisingly well although she box walks when the hay runs out making her stable an absolute state!

God knows what shes going to be like when i turn her out for the first time!

Was wondering about this to, think I might give some Sedalin or something as if he is allowed out he won't be able to hoon around!

Not so bad for me as mine is on paddock rest so I do feel sorry for all those on box rest - it must be horrible for owners and horses alike. I have been given the go ahead to lightly hack now but he still doesnt look / feel right so hardly doing any and hate just watching for any twitch or uneven step. Its the awful not knowing if they will ever come right again and what to do if that is the case. It feels like a whole summer wasted....

I'm gald this post was started, been feeling quite low. My boy can be turned out in a really tiny paddock to stop him "getting up a head of steam" as the vet said!

He was scanned 4 weeks ago after being kicked just above the hock, he has damage to one of the tendons in his hock and is due to be re-scanned (sp) in another 4 weeks.

Keeping my fingers crossed for that one.

Mine has been off since 1 January with a fractured pedal bone. He had 4 months box rest and has been out in the field since then (although in theory he should still be on box rest). Pretty fed up with looking at a lame horse now, especially as the chance of him coming sound aren't that great.

My horse also on box rest with soft tissue injury to feet. Did your horse have any box rest? Mine has to have up to six weeks. The first 2 no exercise at all, week 3 and 4 he can have 5 mins walking in hand and then see how he is. I am not sure what soft tissue damage really means? It only came up at all when he was lame in small circle in vetting prior to his sale. Everything else was fine. Sale of course now fallen through! My horse is a 16h medium weight cob, a happy hacker.

Hugs and good vibes to all the poorly ponio,s and sad owners around at the minute and there does seem to be quite a few .
Mine started a period of 6 weeks box rest yesterday with a torn suspensory and a stress fracture at the top of the cannon bone on the same leg given only a fair prognosis as you can imagine i am absolutely gutted as we were really getting going and he is my only horse .

The poorly one is on his 4th week of paddock rest following getting himself cast.

So far we have had tying up, pressure sores (we are now mostly skinless on the near side) and are now waiting to see if he is still dead lame once he finishes this course of painkillers and the nasty injury and infection on his pastern clears up if he is then it is xray time.

Meanwhile himself is in seventh heaven, he is out in a huge paddock that has been divided into four, surrounded by all of his current love interests, with as much grass as he can eat as well as free choice hay as he has lost so much weight, constant attention from everyone going "ohh poor thing", he has got the pathetic RSPCA poster child look down to a fine art!, but unfortunatley forgets himself by mugging anyone stupid enough to go near him with food.
