it was run to regimental standards, and if yards and riding schools were similar today, we wouldn't have half the goings on we do - bit of order and supervision and horses would be a lot better off all round.

I thought maybe thats not his good horse? At least i hope its not as really didn't look like much! Could it be that he was riding one of the schools horses for the piece? He's got results at advanced medium as far as I can snoop out.

A very long time ago I was a member of the Civil Service Riding club. the horses were kept very close to the Royal Mews and we used to hack them across to the barracks at Knightsbridge then back again. Needless to say the horses were all traffic proof! Worst bit was travelling across London by tube from my office in full riding kit!

Did anyone else notice how smart the horses and riders were in the old pics and how scruffy they were in thr modern day??????

Hear, hear

I was very dismayed to see the Countryfile bloke riding along a very busy road with zero hi viz gear on. It would have been a great opportunity to promote wearing hi viz at all times on the road. What on earth was that riding school thinking allowing him and the other riders we saw out without it? They must be crazy.

Absolutely.

I used to work at an Army Barracks Saddle Club, it was in the middle of the barracks in a long building with an indoor school at one end, there was no turn out at all just a small strip behind the stables which wasn't really used. The horses would have a 2 week holiday in the summer where they went somewhere else and lived out.
It was run by an army captain who was very strict and the yard was immaculate all all times. he even used to come and check the corners of our stables to make sure we had swept properly!
