Whilst out hacking (in the rain) I wondered how often people with horses on full turn out exercise their horse if they dont have a school.

Mine have been full turn out for 7 years and their exercise depends on my working and uni work but I generally get them out 2 or 3 times a week in the summer and 1-2 days a week in the winter. I normally go out for 1-2 hours hacking on roads and off road at any pace (depends on Toffees arthritus now :( )

What do you do with your full turn out neddies?

Well mines normally out 24/7 in the summer and in at night in the winter so not really full turnout - he tends to get ridden anywhere between 3-6 times a week depending on what me and sharer have got going on. His exercise routine doesn't tend to change really whether he's in, out, winter or summer - unless weather dictates otherwise!

My previous horse lived out 24/7 all year round and was worked 4 times a week - and to be honest could have done with a bit more as he was a bit screwy!

Mine is on full TO at the moment and I also exercise my horse every day :)
in the winter he has daily turnout and is not exercised as much as I don't get back till 8 pm so can't ride him but I do try and lunge him for about 20 mins in the morning before putting him out.
I don't have a school so have a field which I can rarely ride in so I hack alot.

Ours are out 24/7 and during the summer, especially summer hols as I am teacher myself and my son ride up to 6 days a week ( not always pos) Winter is different as only time is weekends at the most!!!

I am still dreaming of an indoor school or a floodlight arena to magically appear to help during the winter months
