After searching the internet for a horse on loan for days and days I'm starting to think there's nothing out there. :( I've put adverts up on different websites with hardly any luck. Most who have replied have not been what I asked for (I'm not fussy just asked for a bigger horse around 16.3) Is anyone else in my position? Anyone had any luck?

It is possible but you have to really search. Get an advert on as many sites online as possible and check them all regularly. You may have to be prepared to travel to find the right one. I have had my loan horsey since early May, his owner found me through a wanted advert I had put online........oh and he is 17.1hh!

I'm having the opposite problem, I have a 15.2 all round Riding club horse for full loan, long term if they want, cam move yard as long as I can vet the new home first and visit whenever I want and I just can't seem to find the right home for him, I've had interest, but not as much as I thought geven I will let him move yard. He's gone on two trials now, both I htoguht I had carefully chosen as suitable and I have had him returned once and took him back once.

From reading a number of posts on here it appears there have been alot of bad experiences from people loaning out horses, especially those that can move yards, maybe its just a dying industry.

But try Equine adverts they have a lot for loan on there, I used it for my horse.

I have advertised locally my lad for loan wvtb and I am getting some real numpties calling, so I think loaning can be difficult, I have loaned out and had on loan and felt the experience was good overall.
My one piece of advise is that you can never give enough details, if you are looking be very specific on what you want. My horse is 18.1 and green so what do I get calling.. "can I teach my OH (beginner) on him" eh no!! "Will he fit in a IW 505" eh no!! and so on, I think I may sell him its got to be easier!!!

Only days of looking? Seriously, sometimes finding the right horse to loan can take months...

I have my absolute dream horse-- he wasn't show ring ready or anything like that. He had been out of work for some time but has all the looks, schooling and manners to die for. Get your y/o, riding instructor, friends etc on the case. Put up notices with a list of what you want the horse for - what you'd like to accomplish and what level you ride (be honest). Be ready for vetting and references available.

I was seriously keen on the horse that I have, and short of hounding the owner, I made myself available for any and all references, she visited before and has since she gave him over. I was happy to sign contracts, let her see me ride him...whatever she wanted.

Yup, finding a good loan horse is definitely possible. :D :D :D

It took me many months to eventually find my lovely loan pony...the good ones get snapped up quickly so you have to be on the ball! Its frustrating but worth it in the end. Wanted ads are good, as is word of mouth...ask all you horsey friends to spread the word!
