Hi

I keep seeing pics of people riding in the snow - Does no one else have the problem of snow packing up in the horses shoes and ending up like stilts? Every so often the stilt falls of and then it starts all over again...

No chance i can ride in it as horse would break its leg!

ANyone else have this problem?!

I haven't been riding as our arena is like concrete, but I know friends have been and they said they have been putting loads of hoof grease or vaseline (sp) inside the hoof and they say it stops the 'stilts' from forming.

even my barefoot mare was getting snow-stilts in our last freeze.
someone on here said that putting old socks (strong ones, presumably) over their feet, and taping them around their fetlocks, prevents snow filling their feet. worth a try.
