I don't mean literally (you'd all just tell me to get a car anyway!) but why is it so difficult to find sensible confidence givers nowadays? When my mum was young she probably had some ponies that were a bit iffy, but she had some that were quiet and sensible too. Nowadays they just don't seem to exist, much to my annoyance. Either that or some people must have thousands of them and just hide them when they see me coming

Is it because nowadays even children's ponies are fed a diet more confusing than ours just to hack out once a week, is it because we use too much faff rather than a snaffle and a cavesson noseband, or are horses now just the way they are anyway?

Or maybe they've always been like this and my mum is lying

Discuss please, thank you.

They are out there!! Just takes a bit of patience and searching, get the papers as soon as they come out to be first to ring and view, word of mouth etc etc! My neighbour (although she has this one on loan) found a gem, very gentle, laid back, low maintenance sort of horse, for her and her daughter.

Good luck looking!

It is a nightmare round here, people just cant find quiet sensible first ponies, they are all fizzy little things.

Hence me buying Spooks to sell on, he will be so easy to sell as he is so unbelievably quiet, he isn't anything special, but will make a wonderful first pony for someone

Over the years we have had quite a few initially for my daughter and now to sell on. I go for temperament firstly then make sure they see enough of life. A nice first pony type always sells well regardless of time of year etc so you have to get in quick! Also i think people have to be prepared to overlook a few things ie age looks, infavour of giving your child confidence.
