Horses out in the field and the hunt

If the hunt goes through fields by your horses to you bring them in the days the hunt is on?
At weekends we can put our horses in my mums friends field as it has nothing in it during the winter but she isn't keen on them being in there when the hunt is on as when she had a pony it jumped out the field when the hunt went past and was found somewhere else in the village, she then put him in everytime after that. I agree with ours not going out there when hunt is on.
Just wondered if anyone else brings them in and have you ever had a similar experience?
 
If it were me I'd bring in, purely because mine have hunted before and would proably get very excited.
A couple of hours in the stable isnt going to hurt them so I agree with your decision to keep them in.
 
Personally I leave mine out. I just find if they can see whats going on they tend to not be such twits. They certainly have a blat around when they first realise that the hunt is around and then they usually go into 'horse statue' mode. The only problem I get is that I cant catch my mare that evening (she is super easy to catch any other time!)

That said, if it puts your mind at rest then it certainly wont hurt them to stay in a few hours

Yes I do and I keep mine in if the shoot is around as well ( but thankfully that season has ended now) My horses usally end up charging around and getting themselves in a right state not to mention the mess they make of their paddocks!
 
We leave ours out. My mare has seen the hunt coming through ever since she was born and we have had reports from the hunt staff that neither horse can normally be bothered to stop eating for long enough to get excited about it!

I know in the past they have gone off course and the hounds ran through a neighbours garden.
 
We have the hunt in our area about once a month and although they don't actually go through the field where our horses are, they go past it along the lane and in adjacent fields. We have never kept our horses in because of hunting. Yes, they charge about sometimes, but they mainly stand and watch. My horse is a seasoned hunter and loves it, but he has never jumped out to join in.
 
our local only ever gets a good few fields away (probably a good mile!) we left them out first time, mums horse didnt stop moving for the next 2 days, fence walking in field, box walking in box.

She has never hunted but they did used to meet at her previous yard. Hence ever since they come in and she normally gets a little sedalin.
