I still find it really funny how alot of people still stereotype people with horses as being posh! Yes maybe if you had your own land, 10 horses, swimming in cash and pay people to look after your horses so all you had to worry about was playing polo on the weekend! If not I don't think they couldn't be further from the truth! Here's an insight to my glamorous lifestyle.....

Mon-Fri

Get up 6am, down the yard, feed and turn out 4 horses, home 7am, breakfast, shower, work at 8:30am. Day spent arranging farriers, vets, hay/straw deliveries. Finish 5:30. Home, shovel calorie infested snack down my neck, yard 6:15, muck out 4 stables, put to bed and feed 4 horses, groom etc. Home 8:30, calorie infested quick tea, say hello to boyfriend, shower, bed.

Sat-Sun

Up at 8:am (sometimes hungover), down yard, feed and turnout horses, hack out, home 11:30. Time to have lunch, do some housework & have a decent conversation with my bf. Back down yard 4pm. Muck out 4 stables, put horses to bed, feed, groom, etc. Home 7:pm, takeaway for tea, too tired/late to go out, watch crap TV.

End of month get paid...
Pay farrier, vet, hay/straw, insurance, feed....go to Aldi/Primark with whats left over to feed and treat yourself.

Does anyone else agree??!!

Im like you, but you only have to go to your local PC/BE event to see that there is some serious money around with horses, when you look at the horseboxes etc.. and im not talking about the pros either!

Does posh mean u have money then or could it be your just well spoken ???? Dont always judge a book by its cover . Just because someone has all this equipment doesnt always mean they can afford it ect . My ex husband has lots of money and what he drives ect you wouldnt know he has it .

Well i am just saying in general it will always seem a posher and richer sport than most i think, because it is a very expensive hobby! It will always be perceived as that by non horsey people i think.

I too work my butt off for peanuts, lol, however i know people with money and you wouldnt think it!!
I have found that.....No offence intended, when i worked in factories the girls there would put me in the she owns a horse and wouldnt possibly fit in with us category, lol, hmmmm, work that out???If i was that rich and not on their wavelength why the hell would i be packing ready meals to feed him, apmsl,it is just the mentality of some i'm afraid!!
Got a different job in the care industry and my colleagues are usually intrigued!!

People often think that if u have a horse then u have money - non horsey peoples dont realise that if u have a horse they eat/steal/spend all ur money

Well.......... I've got a horse......so

I'm going to walk wherever I wish with my nose in the air, and talk rather snooty to whom I wish.
Then I shall proceed to walk into Marks & Spencer with crap covered long boots, and enjoy the action whilst security follow me everywhere and the cctv spins round and round!!

But not to worry, after all we have horses, we MUST be posh!
Surely we all have big 4x4's and pristine Range rovers as a second motor??

And don't you dare consider the possibility of a council house if you have a horse, how terrible, you shall inflict a most obscene reputation upon the horsey set!!!

(Crawls away, picking nose, farting loudly prancing thru M&S)

You do still get the odd posh horse owner but TBH nowadays I dont think its posh at all! What the hell is posh about being covered in mud and smelling of horse shite whilst sitting about on an equally disgusting horse in pouring rain at an event for example?!

I think of those as "posh" if they still go by the old fashioned ways like putting straw under canvas / jute rugs for example. I dont know why!

i hate that steryotype (sp) i have been classed as posh for years because i have horses and used to play the violin. the fact of the matter is i have little to no money and pay for everything by myself (as a 17 yr old just left school i struggle) but my mum and dad can't afford the extra expence. when i have had to look for a horse i can't ever look at anything over £2000 so i have to go for older horses or ones that need alot of work

i would love to get right into competeing and get really serious but i just plain can't afford too

It's all bollocks, people buy a brand new car and lose £5000.00 in depereciation before it's driven off the forecourt, that would pay my livery rent for 192.30 weeks or over 3.5 years, then if they smoke say 20 a day at £4.00 a pack thats £28.00 a week or £112.00 a month, then there is alchohol at £2.20 a pint, 2 pints a day is £30.80 a week or £123.20 a month, then there are big holidays fancy clothes eating out ect, it all depends on what you spend your money on, I dont drink smoke buy fashion clothes do big holidays dont have new cars go out to fancy resturants, I have worked for 36 years so mortgage paid off, but I do have a horse, well I aint rich and have to work hard to keep what I have, so anyone who thinks "all" horse people are loaded can piss off and go screw themselves, is that un posh enough

LMAO pedantic!! how right you are! i work hard to keep my 3 horses, and people either think i'm posh and loaded, or completley insane........just because i choose to spend my money on horses rather than plasma tv's and nights at the pub, i would rather my lifestyle anyday!!

It's one of those old sterotypes. I'm sure people at work think that because I have a horse, ride side saddle and play the harp that I have alot of money. Far from the truth, I am just good at saving up for the things in life that I enjoy doing. I put my horse before clothes etc. All I need to do now is to play my harp whilst riding side saddle and then we will be seen as posh haha!

same as pedantic, i dont drink smoke, go on big holidays, buy posh clothes, big tellies etc., ive 4 horses that get better fed than i do, and im quite happy with the situation!

i do try really hard to be chatty and nice to pedestrians etc., when im out riding, as im aware a lot of people think we are snooty/stuck up etc.
truth is i hate talking to people i dont know and i couldnt care less if they are having a nice day/if the weather lovely etc., but i make the effort, im such a fraud...
