Anyone got any prior experience? This didn't happen last time, but at the moment my horses will NOT leave me once I'm at the yard. They follow me around like concerned midwives, wanting to touch my bump all the time. I have a couple of sharers to help keep them exercised and if I'm not there the sharers now have trouble catching the horses, and when ridden nap badly back to me. I REALLY need this baby to turn up now (am overdue) due to the horses' behaviour if nothing else! Can this go on for days or do they know something I don't?? It started two days ago, and is increasing in intensity each day...

I believe that. Many years ago my old GSD dog acted very similarly when I went to help a friend do some hedgeplanting. There were 10 of us and his wife was heavily pregnant. My dog, who never usually left my side, immediately glued himself to her side for the entire day, keeping himself between her and anyone else who arrived at the field to help until she told him it was okay each time and then he'd let them approach.

My mare became very careful around me. There were numerous occasions where normally she would have been a real handful, but she really kept a lid on it when I was handling her during pregnancy. She also knew not to rub her head on me (something which she normally does due to me being a bit soft). Oddly, the first time I took my daughter to see her in her carrier/car seat, my mare wouldn't come close - she ran away in the field which is very unlike her.

Nothing to add except how sweet that they are acting like 'concerned midwives' & wanting to touch your bump! May I ask, are your horses mares by any chance? :)

My mare was really sweet with me, could be a "handful" normally. In the field the chap gelded late (7) wouldn't let the others near me and he was usually quite a grump.

They know somethings different don't they. My gelding was really good with me. He had a bit of an attitude when he was younger but when I was in the last few months he chilled and seemed to know he had to be careful around me. He also let my friend come in his stable to help which was something he really didn't like normally. He wasnt sure of my daughter crying after she was born for quite a few months. He now officially likes her, only taken 7 and a half years!!!!!!.

My old gelding would follow me round the field when I was pregnant - literally treated me like glass. He was the fizziest (but safest) pony I've ever ridden, yet when I was pregnant he wouldn't even canter unless I really pushed :)

The day after I gave birth the first thing he did was give my tummy a big barge with his nose - he definitely knew there was nothing there anymore. Love him so much :)

One of my stallions used to follow my sister when she was pregnant, he was fascinated by the bump and user to kiss the bump so to speak. I've also seen a mare act in a similar way, very sweet. I hope baby shows up soon :)
