With my new found confidence and with Ruby behaving so brilliant lately, I decided to go on a new hacking route yesterday evening. We were joined by a friend and her lovely mare. This route involves going through a tunnell that trains pass over. Wasn't sure if she has ever seen a train but thought why not?!so off we set, Ruby leading the way and being fab. Got to the tunnel and it was slightly flooded due to the heavy rain we had on Weds. Ruby was a little nervy so the other Horse led and Ruby followed after (pretty much climbing the walls so she wouldn't get her feet wet!) it was very dark and narrow but both Horses behaved fantastic. It then leads out to huge fields with lots of different tracks. Trotted all the way around the tracks and was heading torwards home. When we heard a train. We stood the Horses still and let them look. Both stood rock still and didn't seem to care. We carried on the track which then runs along side the train track (about 10 metres or so with fencing between us) we decided to have a canter (Ruby hasn't cantered out on a hack properly in about 7 months!) she lead and was absolutly fantastic. Then to my horror heard a train approcahing. It overtook us and guess what?! Ruby didn't even seem to have noticed and carried on cantering along quite happily. She got a huge fuss and then lead back through the tunnel torwards home.

Whats strange about that, I hear you say?

Well on the way home, we met a walker. Ruby planted and snorted and tried to spin. For that walker was carrying a plant!!!

I cannot believe we went through a scary tunnel twice, overtaken by 2 trains, 1 of which was very close and Ruby doesn't bat an eyelid. We come accross a lovely walker holding a plant and Ruby has a meltdown! Silly Hoss!

Cars can speed by my horse on the roads and she couldn't care less, Trains dont bother her either, but what did we meet the other day which was very scary indeed?? an old man on a motorised scooter so of course we had to do our best 2 year old impression  Also may I ad, he stopped before we even got to him!
Then a couple of minutes past him there was a dustbin lorry bleeping and making loads of noise, nope! Didnt bat an eyelid :p

Silly mare, does make me laugh :D

The first time I rode my 4yo this year I took her down to the end of my lane for a walk. It opens out onto the main road and people whizz by at 60mph no bother. I thought 'oh no, she's not gonna like this' as I could see a caravan coming down the straight, but she totally ignored it and was quite happily stood watching the cars go by. When I turned her round however to go back up the lane, she had a total hissy fit at the black metal postbox we have attached to our gate! We stopped, we stared, we shimmied around it as tight to the opposite gatepost as possible, all the while staring at the SCARIEST postbox in the world, and then we tried to run off once we were past it!

Completely forgot how nervous I was about (a) riding again for such a long time and (b) riding my baby for the first time because I was laughing so much at how stupid she is!

Haha! deffiently just have to laugh at these situations! I just don't understand how they think sometimes! lol

She also has no problem with cows, sheep, quad bikes, tractors etc from living on a farm, but god forbid we should ever go near any childrens ponies. There is apparently nothing more alarming than small grey ponies carrying children around!

Where my mare is at livery is very close to a train track and she has been in the past in the paddocks that are literally a single track road away from the train track. So, when riding in the jumping paddock which is close to the track some days my mare doesnt notice one has gone past but other days she acts as if its the first time she has clapped eye on it and spins....frustrating and odd!

Nadia is happy enough with planes flying low over her head but ask her to walk on a road that has just had tarmac put down or a little tester piece of tarmac and its a different story.

The worst is when they're fine with cars and heavy traffic- but when there are jump stands in the corner of the school which have been moved 3 inches to the left- all hell breaks loose!

I was once riding over a bridge as a train went underneath... not something I would like to repeat. Didn't realise until too late :( My mare seriously freaked

We were hoping a train wouldn't go over the bridge. We waited the other side of it til we could hear one go past, then we walked as quickly as we could under it.

The one that gets me! Gelding, completely safe, doesn't blink at anything, lorries, tractors, U can some one who has never been near a horse on him n he will plod. But. A Robbin having a bath in a puddle? Omg U Wud have thought someone was going at him with a knife!

Can totally sympathise - the Loll is fine with lorries, tractors etc. The scariest thing on our hack - one of the neighbours puts sacks of horse manure out on the side of the road for passersby....

Our bugbear is bits of log. Alf is a fab hack - goes everywhere on the buckle, really forward, non spooky, and totally reliable in the heaviest traffic-usually. There's a private road we go down, which has 11 chunks of log along the verge to keep people off the grass. He looks at the first one, looks harder at the second one, then gets progressively more looky until the last one, which he invariably tries to spin round and run away from. Silly old fool!

Your all wrong...rainbow oil marks from the rain are officially the scariest thing EVER. They require snorting, tiptoeing and bending at awkward angles to avoid them:rolleyes:

My boy passes all traffic and I mean all traffic, buses and tractors with trailors that look like fairground rides etc.

One man on side of road, OMG, panic! He doesn't like dustbins either but only keeps a wary eye as he walks straight by. Patches of different colour flowers/weeds/grass are also quite scarey.

Get some lovely half pass at such times.
