I've no idea, it didn't seemed panicked, like you said...but it doesn't seem to really know what's going on.

OP, the horse in the link you posted belonged to the owner of the pool. Expect it wasn't sufficiently fenced/a gate wasn't closed or similar... and as pool was disused possibly quite green so horse wouldn't have seen it as clear water to avoid stepping into. Scary!
