I have recently bought a gorgeous Irish gypsy cob from a dealer who will remain nameless! The horse was sold to me as six year old, got him home and my vet said no way he is only four. Passport says six, so what am I to do? I am keeping him but it is so annoying. I already no of another buyer who has had the same problem, has anyone else?

Well...my horse is actually older than his passport says...according to vets and EDT's anyway......I'm not bothered, it means I can insure him for less

....TBH I'm not sure of the legal implications but I won't be selling him on anyway.

Same here horse much younger. Called passport agency apparently cannot change it to anything other than 'Unknown' or consider change of age with vet report. Personally thought that better wrong than unknown...

Yes had him vetted when I got him home. It just makes a nonsense of the passport. If we had the wrong age on our passports it would be a different thing er maybe I would like to be younger than my age stated

I brought my horse from a dealer in the West Midlands, she was sold to me as being 6. Turns out she was only just 4 (if that). Meaning she'd been started way to early and had behavioural problems and nearly had to be put down. Who would sell a horse like that to a teenage girl I do not know

Unfortunatly many dealers who import from Ireland make up an age that they think buyers would most like the horse to be. It's so easy to get passports that they don't have any problem making up the info.

I spoke to my vet about it and she said she would just leave the passport as it is as it doesn't really matter. They thing that concerns me is if you ever need to sell the horse on it could be a bit difficult.

I wanted my own Vet.

You don't have to buy the horse first in order to have your own vet examine it.

So is the seller having the pony back?

my horse was sold to me a as a 12yr old and he was a 13yr old (i no because he was repassported by a dealer to hide the fact he is a wetherbys registered thoroughbred, they left his racing name on the new passport so i applied to wetherbys for his original documents)

I had my horse on short loan with a view to buy, the owner told me he was 10 i had him vetted and the vet also aged him at 10. Two weeks later when i brought him and was given the passport it said he was 13. By that time he was already insured and the insurance company took the word of the vet.

I sold a horse before passports were mandatory and saw him advertised 3 years later with a year knocked off.The person I sold to must have put a different name on his passport as he is only on NED from when he was reg BSJA with his correct age. I suppose one year out isn't too bad though.
