Hello All,

So I accidentally rescued a horse in Bulgaria of all places while on holiday. The owner was beating the poor thing with a shovel. I have put him into vet care and he has come on leaps and bounds (he had larvae under his skin, scars, bruises and bumps not to mention he was so thin, I could hardly believe he was still able to work). He had a hernia last year because the previous owner made him take a load on the cart that was so heavy. Disgusting behavior.

Anyway, he has come on leaps and bounds there, and I am leaving him out in grazing for a year to forget, and then plan to ship him over here in April to back and school.

The owner said he was 5, but he is actually 7/8 judging by his teeth, so speaks volumes for his previous owner.

Anyway, he has been conditioned, on all the vet recommended diet for the past few months, but his spine juts out. I have never seen anything like it except in very old horses. He has never been ridden, so is it because he has not formed the muscles on his top line?

I hope someone can help.

Thanks,

Holly

Poor horse and well done you. Hope he gets better soon. Not being worked correctly will have contributed to his spine sticking up and also being under nourished. Once you get him over here with correct feeding and very gentle work Im sure he will develop new muscle. Walking out in hand, pole work in hand, long reining etc before ridden work will help him come good.
Hope if all goes well and best of luck
