If so what was the horses reaction?

We were out on a pleasure ride today and one of the other horses seems to have disturbed a was nest. They then swarmed around Danny's legs (before I even knew what was happening) thankfully only one stung him on the inside of his knee. As I am sure you can imagine the reaction was slightly rodeo pony, but he was so good he obviously realised I was still on and it was smooth although rather large bucks and kicks, so I didn't leave the saddle.

I managed to trot him away then got off once clear to check his leg (which was and is fine) he was just jumpy if anything touched his leg.

Although the comments I got were along the lines of omg... How did you stay on.

So, I just wanted to see if this has happened to anyone else. It is the first time it has happened to me.

Unfortunately it happened to a friends dad whilst get was driving a pony and trap. Pony was bombproof but got stung and bolted. They all ended up upside down in a ditch.

Oh god. :( that's horrible, I thought Danny's reaction was very good considering. He just did it all on the spot and then listened to me as soon as I asked him to go.

Have heard some horror stories, but never know on it happen to anyone!

Twice.
First horse bolted, he was stung under his belly at a show and totaly freaked out. I ended up in hospital as he drilled me into the ground before galloping for nearly 2 miles. He was a very high strung lad to start with

Second horse got a sting whilst on a hack, it was under his chin! He is such a laid back character that the only thing he did was start head shaking and snorting. It was only when his face started swelling up that I realised what had happened. It resulted in a vet visit as he seems to be allergic to wasp stings and his whole face swelled up, one of his eyes ended up swollen shut!

Oh gosh! That's awful! Hope you were ok! I was worried about him swelling up and reacting. All my animals seem to be allergic to wasp stings, but thankfully he isn't!

Yes- no reaction behaviour wise but he's allergic so he went sluggish before I hopped off and by the time we were back he was covered in hives and his muzzle looked comic it was so swollen.

Out autumn hunting once when we disturbed a nest. Most of the horses were panicking etc & got stung; mine stood resting her leg & from my friend was the only one who didn't get stung!

My lad got stung on his ear last summer - he started head shaking/snorting and did a few bunny hops before head butting a tree! That seemed to bring him back to his senses, but I got off and led him home as I wasn't sure if he'd have a reaction to it, and I'd never known him get so upset about anything! He was fine once I'd got him home.

I know of someone locally whose normally bombproof driving pony bolted along the lane to their own yard gate. Unfortunately the elderly lady who was driving was thrown and killed. The only explanation any-one could find was a wasp/bee sting.

One occasion horse I was riding got stung on the belly while we were waiting to cross a dual carriageway, stopping the bolt reaction was easier than I thought but he reared and went over sideways onto the bank next where we were. I held on and he got back to his feet and the shock had worn off so able to get back home safely.

On another occasion a wasp landed on the right shoulder bone of the horse and starting repeatedly stinging, horse didn't even notice and I was able to squish the wasp (with a great deal of satisfaction) and carry on without the horse breaking stride.

I hate wasps. They have anger issues.

He bronced, massively, worse than anything I'd ever experienced on anything. No allergic reaction thankfully but I sustained a broken back & wrist. Worst day of my life.

I was fine, severe bruising and a minor concussion but otherwise ok. The first horse was a problem horse that was known for bolting blind if you touched him behind the saddle at all whilst riding. It came from his past where he had been badly abused.

The second horse was fine and is still as sweet as ever. Honestly if he hadn't swelled up I don't think I'd have known he had been stung

My boy was stung .. On his tongue by a wasp during a fun ride with the hunt I didn't notice and just thought he was being more of a pain than normal because more horses were out lots of snatching the reins and pulling loaded him on the wagon couldn't see anything then got home he was very quiet not himself drank a fair bit of water and lots of slobbering and had no interest in his hay I thought he was colicing so called vet but no he had a very fat tongue and seemed to have been stung poor boy

Oh god, well I most definitely had a mild reaction from him then. Turns out he was stung more then once, he has a small lump on his leg and 2 on his chest. So I am assuming these are where he was stung. Spoke to some of the guys who went on the fun ride with the hunt we went with and apparently a few people / horses got stung.

Lets just hope it doesn't happen again!

Old cob was stung once on the shoulder. I could feel him tense and about to explode. Fortunately he was extremely brave and managed to hold himself together until I could get off and make sure he was ok. It was probably one of the bravest things he has ever done as he REALLY hates needles and it must have felt similar. He really looked after me that day.
