Looking through some old pictures tonight of my first horse, im hit by a pang of loneliness and realise i still miss him terribly. I had to sell him if i wanted to buy dee as at the time i couldnt afford two horses, but i cried when he went up the driveawy in the trailer and i still find myself missing him.

He was a cheeky chappy! But i could do anything on him. Such a genuine neddy! 15.2hh tb x somthing from Ireland. We though either connie or a little arab in there somewhere. He was so pretty, my yellow pony!

He is in a wonderful home now, but i still wonder what if i never sold him, didnt buy dee, how different would life be now? I probably wouldnt have got so into dressage as i did, wouldnt have worked with horse therefore wouldnt have got injured the way i did etc. Alternatively, it might well have happened. I miss having such an easy, uncomplicated horse. Do not get me wrong, i love delicia to pieces, and she is a horse of a lifetime, but i wish i still had calypso.

Has anyone else ever felt like this? Its always so easy to look back and wonder what if...

And yes, that is lil old me :D ages 14 to 16!

Of course it's normal for people to think this.

I do it a lot with my mare. She's nothing short of a nightmare at times behaviour wise. I wish that I had something quieter and that I could trust 100%.

But I don't. And I made the decision to take her on, and I love her like you love Dee. So she won't part from my side (unless it's a desperate desperate situ like I become homeless etc!!).

:)

I sold my youngster last year as she didn't grow big enough for me. I don't regret it as I know it was the right thing to do. I get updates on her now and she is doing great and riding out well but I do wonder how things would have been if I'd kept her. I've got a new horse that is proving to be rather tricky and although I hope with time she will come good I do think how things would have been easier if I'd stuck with the youngster that has proven to be uncomplicated!

Everything happens for a reason though so I have faith that it will all work out ok in the end.

Aww calypso is a very handsome chap!

I have only just bought my first horse but I daren't ever go to the riding school I used to learn/volunteer at in my younger days, it would be about twelve years since I've been even though its local but I don't think I could bear knowing that the two lovely big horses I learnt on and all the other familiar faces were no more as I imagine they'd be rather elderly! I suppose they could still be around, they might have been younger than I thought..

Very much hoping I don't think this on a years time. Piper is THE bestest pony going but he's really just too small and too..... easy for my taste, so I've bought a now 3yr old ISH. Piper will be sold once Roo's up and running. I just hope i don't regret it!

D-D I have only ever parted with 2 horses in 21 yrs of ownership. The first was swapped by my parents for something more suitable when I was about 9 so I am going to ignore that one as I only had him a few months and never really bonded with him anyway.

The something swapped for was a 12.2 palomino, welsh x gelding called Raffles. He was sold without even being advertised. I was 13 at the time and I had outgrown him, I took him to a local show ran by the tack shop owner and someone obviously asked her if she knew of a pony for sale and she mentioned him. They called the farm where I kept him and the farmers wife who was my instructor persuaded me to sell him. The people came to try him and loved him, they owned him for a long time and loaned him out once the girls out-grew him. I made contact with one of the girls last year on facebook to try and trace him but they sold him in the end and lost contact with him :(

I rent my own field and have plenty of space these days. Raffles is a similar age to the 14.2 I replaced him with (and still have) and would love to be able to find him and offer him a home for retirement if required. In fact in the morning I think I am going to post on the local horsey groups to try and find him :)

Dudley, a 15.1hh Irish cob x TB he would jump the moon, i have never sat on anything else that gave me the feel he did over a fence. He was my first real event horse at the tine when PN was as small as it got! He was an incredible hunter, would stay all day and jumped anything from anywhere!

But he was nappy, especially coming out the start box and had a tendency to stand up when napping. He went up and over on me and I started to loose my nerve competing, especially if I had to go in the start box as I really needed a canter start.

I sold him to a girl to do RC stuff telling her he was nappy in the start box so not really suited to things except pairs HT.

I visited him once after he'd gone, he seemed happy. I never heard from them again but about 8 years later completely out the blue I had a terrible dream about him, it's haunted me ever since.

The one I really miss is Diva. I bought her from a stud as a weanling and just fell head over heels for her. She was just an angel. I had her til she was 2.5yrs old and then fell into financial difficulties with a house that we bought. I had to sell her and I was devestated. However, she firstly went to France and then onto the UAE a year later and now has a pampered life owned by one of the worlds richest families, and has begun her career as a showjumper. It's just what I wanted for her tho I'd love to see her in person again. Her new owner keeps me up to date on FB and tags me in videos etc so I'm really lucky. I hope to see her on tv one day :)

Other than a little 12.2 pony, mine have only left me in the black horsebox with no windows :( I sold one of my horses, and promptly bought him back about 6 months later! I currently have one that I plan to sell in a few years, but whether that will actually happen only time will tell!

I am lucky that I have never had to sell any off my horses, they have stayed with me until the end. I now have a three year old, who at four week be started, if we do not suit I will sell rather then let him be wasted if I an not to ride him. I will be very sad and will do my best for him buff he will go. My current boy Ffin will go no where EVER!

i sold a nutter in 2005 - he was sent away for schooling then sold on

promised to keep in touch - never heard from him since!

he's BE registered ad done 2 events.... thats it. :/

i did try to get in touch but nothing - no reply :(

shame really.

One that i miss terribly. I dont know where he is now and i would love to fund him. I jumped him BS and had a reasonable amount of winnings on him but he has never been registered again :(

I sold my 2 year old 2 years ago and although I miss him I've kept in touch with the lady I sold him too and he has a lovely home where he is spoilt rotten :)
She's also done so much more with him than I would have, he does XC, he's won dressage classes, qualified for show jumping classes later this year and she's always asking me to go and visit or see him at shows.
I'm so proud that he's turned into a superstar as even as a yearling he had something special about him.
Selling him was sad but the right thing to do.

We've only ever had ours to the end (though that wasn't the plan) - I like that if you sell an eventer there is a high chance of them going BE and therefore you being able to keep tabs.

I sold my first horse as i had bought her son and then finances meant i could keep 2.

At the time it was a relief to see her go as I was penniless but now I miss her so much.

I keep in touch with where she is now but if she came up for sale I would buy her back in a heartbeat.

Although it is nice that I own her son, I still have a bit of her here with me.

This is my favourite photo of her.

Yep, my pc ponies were both sold and ive lost contact which is terribly sad but because mine are always on livery it just wouldnt have been viable to keep them, plus they were only 8 and 10 so would have been silly to retire them when they still could go on and be enjoyed by some other little horsey mad kids!

I sold my pc horse to fund one i have now, and have regretted it ever since. It breaks my heart, but, on the other hand, he is happy, out competing etc, and doing much more than just standing in a field like he would have done with me. I have regular contact with the new owners too and plan to visit soon, but I'd jump at the chance to have him home. He was definately my horse of a lifetime and I miss him so so much,
