I always rode when I was a kid and my brother tells me I constantly stank of horses all through my teenage years ( cheers bro)

I had a break for the career/kids thing.....always fancied getting back on board but never did anything about it until my son, then aged about 6 asked if he could do something different for a change and he mentioned riding lessons (a decision he rues to this very day

)...

Obviously, watching him bobble about on the RS ponies made me book a few lessons and soon I was going twice a weekend.....OH got his calculator out and said, ''well- you may as well get your own for what you are spending''.......so I did.

5 years later......3 horses- me, daughter and OH ( son fell off one time too many and gave up, bless him).
A conservatory that resembles a boot factory.....muckas/wellies/leather boots stenching the place out.
A car boot full off tack and 'stuff'.
A shed full of 'horse stuff'
A wardobe consisting of work wear and riding wear and nowt else.
Calender that has shows/farrier/vet/presentation evenings....and thats it.
The horses now have their own bank account

I am on first name terms with every tack/feed shop owner in the area...

And now OH is devastated to discover that I have bought a Disco to clutter up the driveway and have his winter planned out renovating a trailer for me......

Anyone else remember when they had one horse and just its tack? Exactly where/when/how do you accumulate all the 'stuff'???

Rambling ponderings from a madwoman who has seen a vision of her future...its a scrawny 70 year old still stinking of horses, covered in horse-hair ....mucking out the grandkids ponies.....

What about you lot?

Im the same, constantly stink of horse pee. Small flat where you trip over saddles etc. Smelly boots everywhere. Even the oh's car has a boot full of rugs etc, havent got anywhere else to put them. Horses do take over your life most def. but we love them. ps forgot to mention they take all your money !!

I bought a little pone for the daughter to potter about on 18 months ago, and just so I could keep my hand in, so to speak. Everyone warned my husband that one would lead to another but even I poo-poo that idea, but here I am now with two pones!!

I didn't think I could even afford one horse, let alone two but... hang on, what am I saying!! I can't afford one horse, who can?!?

11 years ago, when I had my first horse, I was doing really well... one horse, tack, and just the necessaries to keep it alive (food, rugs etc etc)...

This situation has slowly deteriorated into the following:
- Same horse with double the number of saddles, bridles, rugs etc - however did she cope before just having ONE saddle...
shocked.gif

- Youngster who has so far managed not to accumulate a plethora of stuff but she's 2... so that means it's all coming soon
- New car to pull.....
- ....New trailer
- New house that has enough room for the garage to be a veritable muck heap of horse related things and spare room to house drawers etc for all riding related clothing
- OH who invariably gets dragged kicking and screaming to spend his weekends either a) taking horse out to show/ride/beach or b) coming up yard to repaint/drill holes in/clean/some other manly chore or c) dragging trailer around countryside to load up hay and recently d) learning to ride older horse himself...
And now for the worst one....
- Being unreasonably excited when local saddlery has just started up a "Tesco clubcard" type bonus points scheme... we all know what points mean....!!!!

hmmm funnily enough I can relate to the following:-

A conservatory that resembles a boot factory.....muckas/wellies/leather boots stenching the place out - except that's just our whole kitchen, you obviously have some standards!
grin.gif

A car boot full off tack and 'stuff' - yes mobile tack room on wheels, what more could a girl want!
smile.gif

A shed full of 'horse stuff' - used to my my OH's tinkering shed, now its MY tack room
grin.gif

A wardrobe consisting of work wear and riding wear and nowt else - just yes

Calender that has shows/farrier/vet/presentation evenings....and that's it - you forgot back person/horse dentist
wink.gif

The horses now have their own bank account - now?... they always have in our house!

Not mine. Sad isn't it?

Nothing horsey AT ALL in the house, they have a barn for their toys. OH has animal allergies and that includes anything horsey (in fact any animals) in enclosed spaces.

Between OH and I, we have three horses. TWO full tack rooms, FOUR rug rails, more feed bins than I care to count, more sets of boots than all three horses could wear etc etc.

We are happy.

R&R in Hemingbrough near Selby. They are online too but not sure the loyalty card works over t'internet.

Kenzo, glad it's not just me who has a problem!
blush.gif
They should have a helpline for those of us addidicted to buying things that aren't even for us!!
grin.gif
Outside of the horsey-world we'd be considered extremely generous buying our beloved pets so many things, or maybe just considered mad!

Hmmm.....I have just come back in the house and the utility room currently has a dogs bed, washing machine, and freezer in it and the rest is taken up with an assortment of boots - wellies, jod boots, long boots - about 10 pairs in total - all of which are in various coats of mud, a travel rug, 4 numnahs, a girth and two bridles for cleaning, spare bits and other pieces of unused tack, tack cleaning pots and bottles and cloths, a hoof pick, boot jack, spare hoof boots and an assortment of riding jackets and coats for a wide variety of weather.........and I wonder why it smells a bit 'horsey'
crazy.gif
.......lets not look at the rest of the house..........

I'm reading this thread and chuckling to myself. This is so my life.

Got married (2nd attempt) a couple of years ago and warned new hubby what having neds would entail. He said not a problem, it would be good fun. A couple of months ago, he told me that although he had been warned, he never quite imagined this!

He even refuses to kiss me until I take my stinky closes off. How rude
