Soooo yesterday we sold our yearling colt Jimmy, unfortunately due to him being one of the last through the ring he didn't fetch as much as we were hoping but we didn't want to keep a colt to race so he had to go. Fortunately he was bought by a guy we know who lives not too far from us so I'll be able to keep an eye on his future racing career :)

Playmate didn't reach her reserve and I'd talked my dad into leaving the reserve as it was, what with her being in foal and generally being a lovely mare, so she came home with us last night and went straight back out to devour all of the grass we have on the farm! If nothing else, she makes a wonderful field ornament and she's a gentle old soul :) plus we get another baby next year!

We also bought a new filly :D her registered name is Fresh Ayr but my friend came up with the nickname Daisy, as in 'fresh as a daisy', so Daisy she shall be! She went home with our trainer to be broken in, and then she'll be moving to her new residence (our place) before Christmas to meet the rest of the clan.

Finally (and possibly most excitingly), Star and I are going hunting on Saturday for the first time together! I haven't hunted on a horse for four or five years and Star has never even seen a hound, but the meet is at a neighbouring farm and it's being run jointly with the local PC so I'm thinking it'll be gentle-paced enough for us to begin with! Although Star's biggest fear is in fact children on small grey ponies, of which I'm sure there will be loads!

Sorry to bore you all, I've just been stupidly excited about it all since I got home from the sale last night! Am going to see Daisy on the weekend and will be taking her new stable rug that I decided to treat her to :o (everything else will be second or third hand!). Will hopefully be able to post pictures then of my new girl, and of ol' Big Ears and me dressed up smart on Saturday!

Over and out!

Sounds super exciting!! Hope the new filly comes on well under saddle and that the little colt does well in his new home. Pretty field ornaments can't be a bad thing! i hope you have a great time hunting!

Thanks Gracie :) must admit, am a bit nervous about going hunting because my confidence has taken a few major knocks in the past and I'm still getting used to riding again, but Star is genuinely laid back about everything and even though she's only 4 she takes everything in her stride!

P.s. Daisy is being broken in the cart to race, not under the saddle (not yet anyway), and as it's only me riding since my old man had his hip replacement and ongoing knee issues, I think I've got enough of my hands with Star at the moment! Perhaps in the future she can be broken to ride, it's certainly another string to her bow :)
