Have just heard they have been herded into a neighbours field thank god

To be honest, I'd be giving them notice. The first rule of livestock is shut the gate. Anyone who can't understand that should be shown the door. Imagine if the horses had been involved in an accident. I doubt if your insurance would have paid up as it was negligence.

Yes Jo it is.

Am even more cross because Merlin was one of them, and he, being only 2 1/2yo obviously doesn't have much experience of roads and i don't expect his experience today was very good!!

Time to find some new liveries. Invest in some padlocks, and only do part DIY. That way on the YO brings in and turns out - and only he is responsible for the gates.

Well they aren't my liveries unfortunately so i don't have much say nor do they ever listen to me when i try to ask them to keep all gates shut, but they weren't even bringing in or turning out i don't think, just opened and drove through the gate to the road and didn't bother to shut it, and didn't properly shut the first gate to the fields once they'd gone through that either,

If they'd at least shut the road gate, the horses would then have only got into the yard which would have not been anywhere near so bad!

Am just very glad they didn't get hit by a car or anything

Ah, thought it was your boyfriends yard. In that case - vote with your feet and find a nice, safe, professional livery yard.

I've been there 6/7yrs and the horses have never been loose on the road before, its only since these people came along who seem to think gates are there to be left open
