Horses who's legs fill from stabling... Young and old!

Really just pondering from a post i came across earlier...

The person noticed her horses legs filled from a night in the stable, however her horse was older in his years and it was said it was just bad circulation from an older body.

A lady i used to know up my old old yard had a 7yo that legs also used to fill.. now that cant be old age?

What are the reaons behind it?
 
my horse has got windgalls on his back legs. that if stabled for long periods of time they fill. its due to the lymphatic system and the fluid sitting around the fetlocks. there are supplement you can get to help the lymphatic system.
 
My old mares legs fill over night, she wears leg wraps to help boost her poor circulation, she also has a murmur and had a stroke a few years ago... bless her.
 
I've noticed the 3yr old's legs fill from time to time. As long as theres no heat/pain i've never really bothered with it. I mean I'd mention it to the vet if theres something else wrong with him but it all goes down within 2mins of walking about. Think about it, horses are designed to be constantly roaming, standing still for long periods must do something to them.
 
My horse has windgalls that lead to his legs filling. It can be quite noticable in heavier horses (mine is a Shire/TB) (and only 10 years old)

The lady i knew never seemed bothered either- she said it was because he stood in the same spot and ate all night.. i think he even poohed in generally the same area.

But i was interested nonetheless.. However my Sec D has a heart murmur and hers dont fill randomly enough.
 
My mare aged 9 front right leg fills up if in all day.. but i am linking it to she had a old injurie on that leg ... so could just be a side affect i hope ?
 
I don't think there really is a pattern. Once, a few years ago, PF's legs used to fill up... now they don't. Neither do Antifaz's and he's in full work AND has windgalls. Other horses on the yard DO fill up, perhaps because they have less turnout than A, who is out at least a few hours a day.
 
I have just ordered a herb called clivers to try .My mare had mud fever had a course of anti biotics and also had field kick on the hock.This leg is filling the vet calls it cellulitis .Found herb on ebay that is supposed to aid fluid retention and help clear lymphatic system .Im hoping the herb will help rather than keep her on danilon for another month.
 
My old thoroughbred is 26 now (although thinks he is a 3 yr old!) and his legs had ALWAYS filled overnight but I never worried too much as as soon as he was ridden in the morning they went down. But 3 years ago I started giving him Cortaflex, not that he had any problems but as a preventative measure - and his legs haven't filled once since!! BIZARRE!!! (unfortunately his joints are fine too which he regularly likes to show me when we are going sideways into jumps and going up and down on the spot!!)

My TB's legs fill if he stands in. He has been fired. However his stable at home is only 10 x 10 and he can't really move around that well in it. When he stays the night at other people's who have much bigger stables his legs are fine. Def. to do with not moving around.

Now that you mention it I think I read somehwere that startchy foods can make it worse, but wouldn't cause it... I think...

Thats interesting as my mare is on calm and conditon which is sugar beet type of feed so probably high in starch.Trouble is its the only feed that she can keep sane on and she needs to gain weight.Will monitor but bear that in mind.
 
My IDxTB 3yo hind legs fill up, but only after stabling after exercise. I just assumed they hadn't had enough chance to recouperate in the field. But like humans really.
