Horses with arthritis.

my 9 year old does i still hack out, do fun rides and dressage with her and a tiny bit of jumping as i hate it she loves it. She has cartophen injections for it alongside her spavin treatment as well and is not on any pain relief just supplements and is very happy working.
 
My 14 year old welsh D mare was diagnosed with DJD in October after having x-rays. I still do everything we did before. I limit jumping, and am very careful about doing much more than a walk out hacking but still compeate dressage and hoping to start jumping competitively again soon alothough we will stick to the smaller classes.
 
Mine was diagnosed with it at the end of last year and unfortunatley we are hitting our heads against a brick wall with it and he has not been back in work for a year. My vet has said not to retire him and that the best thing that we can do for him is keep him in work that is little and often. He will have to go on bute but the pros out way the cons for him. He has always lived for jumping and so I will try and do some lower level stuff with him to keep him happy.
 
I have a horse with bad arthritis. I have him on a joint supplement called synequin. It is very expensive, especially when you are doing the loading dose, but a pot last three months (costs £120.00) My horse is 30 years old and is on no other pain relief or anything. I hack him, he is turned out and I have found he really benefits from being kept in when it is raining especially in winter.
 
My 19 year old TBx had mild artheritis in her back knees and it doesnt seem to bother her much :) on cold days shes a bit stiff and sore but after running round a little she warms up a bit :) i take her out hacking every so often and i jumping her in my field in the summer evenings :)
 
My 14 year old had it when he was 8 he was retired last year as he got to the point as soon as the weight was on his back he just hopped about in pain as he couldn't hold it i am only 9st so not that hefty lol
 
My 17yr old horse hacks, schools and jumps up to around 80cm. He has the odd days when quite stiff and needs bute if ground really hard but most of the time happy and sound just on devils relief and joint supplement.
