Horses with smaller than average eyes - what do we think? Basically we've ended up with one (ex-rescue case - very sad history but in good hands now) - his vision seems to be fine though. Is there any associations for horses with smaller eyes (e.g. broad forehead, big ears are supposed to be a good sign) maybe?

Small piggy eyes are a sign of a less than honest horse or one with a mean temperament .... but then not sure what grounds that is set by

That's incredibly interesting. Bearing in mind what he's been through and it's ALOT (he should have died four weeks ago), I got the feeling that he's got the kindest nature - you know that feeling - real calm, trusting and quiet even though he's only 18 months old. And he is getting back some life in him so it wasn't just being poorly but time will tell I suppose.

I thought small piggy eyes were a symptom of a repressed horse; one that could have been through a lot of trauma and be withdrawn into himself.

Lots of people say that once a horse has found a kind home and relaaxes into it the eyes really widen up

i have a NF with small eyes..

he is a fabulous pony, great temperment and a winner many times in-hand in the show ring, including the NF Breed Show in the New Forest.

i'm not sure if there is any stigma to having small eyes TBH..although he does look like he's frowning!!

Sunny doesn't have large eyes but he is the sweetest, most confidence giving horse on the planet. The only thing I would flag up is that smaller eyes may be a sign of physical problems at some point, eg blocked tear ducts and other more sinister problems. Worth keeping a close watch on your ned if he has smaller eyes.
