Has anyone ever used this platform to rehome a horse?
My horses (and my) peaceful existance went wrong recently! I thought I had them all nailed at life! The 2 TB's were best of friends, very chilled and happy together, the two ponies also fine. They were all turned out together, shared hay piles, didn't care who came in out out first. All in during the day- currently, Plan had been to switch the horses and keep the ponies as they are. This means I can feed the old one several times though out the day and that when I ride the ponies are already there to keep the older TB company for an hour on the yard. They would have all been happy with this situation.
Other retired was living out, again very happily with another non ridden gelding at a farm where nothing really came or went. None of the surrounding horses were ridden either so he was very chilled. Until a mare was introduced. Then it all went wrong. The mare and other gelding buddied up instantly and my horse became a very unhappy loner. He was being hounded around by the gelding, at times really nastilly. I was unable to get near him in the field as the others would chase him off. He went lame- this is all in less than a week!
So I, grudgingly went and got him home.
He can't go with the horses because my gelding is also trying to attack him. So I've had to split them all which isnt ideal at all as I don't have much grazing and would rather them together. He is with the ponies. This was kind of working if they were all together (but divided) I've had to move the TB's onto better grass as theres was completely bare, now he can't see them but can hear them. So he yells and shreiks and paces around. He will settle, until morning. Which ever group I bring in first is wrong. Either his yelling and going nuts on the yard drives the TB's nuts and they come in all sweaty and in a state or i get them in first, he hears it and so starts tearing round the field chasing the ponies.
Its also going to cause huge problems riding, If I ride and then turn out he's looses his mind (not a problem if i can keep to over night turnout for all but not realistic)
He's a gorgeous loving person but is actually driving me bat sh*t crazy and its only going to get worse. He is the perfect comapanion for a non ridden horse. The lameness is all but sorted now, so I'm thinking what the hell to do. I've put a thing on my FB but no replies really. I could put it on the wider FB- local horse pages etc. I can't afford retirement livery, thats a definite no. I could try and find another field but I really can't get another horse to keep him comapny and don't know anyone to share with. I'd be happy to contribute/pay farrier etc. I'd also be happy to sign him over after a year or whatever if thats what the right home wanted. I'm currently dreading going out there in the morning as to what state everyone is going to be in. If there is anyone on the yard, like one of the farm guys comes in early to work I have to get out there quick before he hears them to get everyone in before he starts on the ponies and the yelling begins!
Whatever time of day I visited him and the other gelding they would be quietly grazing. He is not like this all the time!
I've just looked at Homes4Horses- Does anything ever find homes via this?
Any other ideas
