Has anyone ever used this platform to rehome a horse?

My horses (and my) peaceful existance went wrong recently! I thought I had them all nailed at life! The 2 TB's were best of friends, very chilled and happy together, the two ponies also fine. They were all turned out together, shared hay piles, didn't care who came in out out first. All in during the day- currently, Plan had been to switch the horses and keep the ponies as they are. This means I can feed the old one several times though out the day and that when I ride the ponies are already there to keep the older TB company for an hour on the yard. They would have all been happy with this situation.
Other retired was living out, again very happily with another non ridden gelding at a farm where nothing really came or went. None of the surrounding horses were ridden either so he was very chilled. Until a mare was introduced. Then it all went wrong. The mare and other gelding buddied up instantly and my horse became a very unhappy loner. He was being hounded around by the gelding, at times really nastilly. I was unable to get near him in the field as the others would chase him off. He went lame- this is all in less than a week!
So I, grudgingly went and got him home.
He can't go with the horses because my gelding is also trying to attack him. So I've had to split them all which isnt ideal at all as I don't have much grazing and would rather them together. He is with the ponies. This was kind of working if they were all together (but divided) I've had to move the TB's onto better grass as theres was completely bare, now he can't see them but can hear them. So he yells and shreiks and paces around. He will settle, until morning. Which ever group I bring in first is wrong. Either his yelling and going nuts on the yard drives the TB's nuts and they come in all sweaty and in a state or i get them in first, he hears it and so starts tearing round the field chasing the ponies.
Its also going to cause huge problems riding, If I ride and then turn out he's looses his mind (not a problem if i can keep to over night turnout for all but not realistic)
He's a gorgeous loving person but is actually driving me bat sh*t crazy and its only going to get worse. He is the perfect comapanion for a non ridden horse. The lameness is all but sorted now, so I'm thinking what the hell to do. I've put a thing on my FB but no replies really. I could put it on the wider FB- local horse pages etc. I can't afford retirement livery, thats a definite no. I could try and find another field but I really can't get another horse to keep him comapny and don't know anyone to share with. I'd be happy to contribute/pay farrier etc. I'd also be happy to sign him over after a year or whatever if thats what the right home wanted. I'm currently dreading going out there in the morning as to what state everyone is going to be in. If there is anyone on the yard, like one of the farm guys comes in early to work I have to get out there quick before he hears them to get everyone in before he starts on the ponies and the yelling begins!
Whatever time of day I visited him and the other gelding they would be quietly grazing. He is not like this all the time!
I've just looked at Homes4Horses- Does anything ever find homes via this?
Any other ideas

No, I'd kind of assumed if people were willing to pay they are a bit more serious not just time wasters. Its £20 to list and the loaner pays £50 initially (which is alot and I'd not be paying £50 just to get to the more info point) They than donate to the company not the owner.

I think may people would be put off by having to pay to respond to an advert.

If someone came on here asking whether it was OK to pay £40 to view a horse for sale - the responses would be 100% no.

Could the general stressed behavior be to do with something else going on? Or was he always a stress head when in work? Worth a bute trial to see if its pain causing the stress to bubble over?

Most people looking for companions want something they can leave while riding and maybe a really stressy TB isn't that.

How old is he? could he have reached the end if he's really really unhappy?

If I'm out looking then I'm definitely serious, but don't see why I should pay to view, as Polo's mum says.

I look at different sites for different types of horse.

Most have come from Horsequest, when spending good money.

For a cheaper one / one with a dodge, I look at Preloved or Facebook. Rigsby was Preloved, but I did see a few on FB.

BTW, when I did internet dating, months after Mr Red died, I chose POF as it was also the free one that seemed the most straightforward! It seemed that most that were on the ones that cost to register were also on the free one, so I was informed!!!

No, He's been like it since the day I had him. He's not like it away from here. I've kept him at two other places (both same situ though, living with another horse who's not ridden)
He's not a TB (he's my profile pic) he's pretty tough, very good doer, lives on fresh air. He's 13 and this is the issue really, he's not happy here in my set up, he was very happy down in his other field but I can't keep him there now the other horses have changed.
Yes to bute trials, several times for ridden issues. Makes absolutely no difference.

No, ok it was just an idea, I'd advertised him on preloved etc once and tbh the amount of complete and utter idiotic replies I got was rediculous.

He's also be fine in a group of 3 say if one got ridden to keep the other one company, or they just stay out so theres no anticipation of time to come in/ go out

So sorry you’re in this position. I’m no help but feel your pain. I had a TB mare for 25 years and all the other horses had to fit in with her quirks. She was as a nightmare to deal with but the most gentle loving kind horse as long as everything was as she needed.

Any chance of him bonding with a couple of elderly sheep?! Cheap enough to acquire…. Tbh, you’re the person who knows his quirks and has a history of regard for him because of what he’s been to you. I’d be reluctant to let him go anywhere that empathy was never developed.

There’s another website, right horse right home, where pay to get in contact is necessary - but seems to have a lot of very positive reviews. Some are for loan.

And here's the issue. I actually love him to bits. He's such a people person but really the whole world needs to exist around him and only him. When people come here everyone stops to say hello to him. Mr P who isnt horsey really and dislikes the TB's is often out chatting and feeding him apples.

I CAN'T do this for another 20 years, or even 10!

I'll have a look, maybe that's the one I'd been reccomeneded actually. Now you mentiom it it sounds very familier.

As for sheep, I have absolutely no idea. I've never tried. We dont have room here, really we dont have room for him here forget about more grazers. There is a field down the road- literally that's owned by weekenders who are doing up the attached house so are never actually there but I have my eye firmly set on that. Obviously I have no idea if they have plans for it or how to contact them!
If i could secure something like that and someone to pay for half I'd be happy to look after. I just really can't take on another myself.

He's fine, his feed requirements are much the same. They get plenty of hay, little grass. That's actually great for him. The problem is he can hear the other horses coming in and out. If it were just him and the ponies, its all fine. In fact the easiest winter I have had was him and the ponies here at home. They came in and went out together, he was the only one ridden so nothing ever left him.
For him to be fine every horse on the yard has to have the exact routine. he can hear the others being led up and down the road to their field and that's all it takes.

If he's a people person, could he find a job as a therapy horse? Or is he too big for that sort of thing?
Someone else suggested that and I did email a few suggestions that she gave me but yes i think he probably is a bit big and also they may have the same problem, If something else comes in or out withour him.

Could you rent a field away from the yard for him and the ponies? If you had somewhere you could put up a field shelter (or better still had one already!) you could shut the older pony in during the day with the extra feed while leaving all three able to see one another but not see/hear the other two? Although that leaves the problem of either always taking two out together or teaching one to stay in alone.

Maybe. The one pony needs feeding several times and takes a good 45 minutes
It did occur to me earlier that maybe he and my own pony could live out permanently and so he’d stop the anticipation at least and the old mare pony could live with the two TB’s.
I’m not sure she would be thrilled at that idea as she is pretty dependant on my pony. She’d also have further to and from fields and walks very slow compared to the others.
Why are horses so incredibly difficult and complicated at times.

I think finding some stranger to loan him who is able to always accommodate very specific needs in the long term might be tricky.

Do you have enough space to have a retirement livery at yours with him - to live out together all the time. Then ponies can stay together and you can manage his need for ridged consistency ?

Albeit I appreciate adding another to the mix just adds to the complexity !!

Honestly I don't have room for the ones I have hence having had him elsewhere. I've also got a contract saying only 3 horses and currently have 3 plus two ponies! I've always claimed the ponies are so small they don't count (or make 1 horse!)
I've never been able to have them living out as i just odnt have the space/grass hence they are all in part day/night all year round.

I dont think he will find a home. The cost of keeping horses is going to go through the roof this winter. Every horse person I know is worried about hay costs and fields being a swamp if we get yet another wet winter. The things that drive you mad about him are going to drive other people mad, except worse as they dont know him and care about him the way you do.

I know theres nothing left to investigate, but that doesnt mean theres not a physical issue. I'd put money on it, because horses just dont behave like that without some sort of underlying issue. You just cant find it, and given how hard youve tried your unlikely to, and its even less likely to be something you can fix. Youve tried various options for him and he hasnt settled or its gone wrong. He cant stay with you as your well over the horse limit. So you are out of realisitic options. I dont think there is an answer for him that ends with happy ever after. I honestly would cry my eyes out and then have him PTS.
