Horseshoe art

My husband has made a pair of entwined hearts out of two of his horse's shoes which we are going to give to the lady that shares him for Xmas. They are lovely (tried to upload a pic, but for some reason the computer can't see the photo??). The plan was to spray them either black or cream, but they look quite nice as they are (somewhere inbetween a used shoe colour and a new shoe colour) so I'm wondering if to just varnish them with clear varnish.

What colour would you choose or would you want them natural?

(ps, when I say the lady that shares him, I mean the horse not my husband!!)

They look great as they are, maybe give them to the sharer like this and she can paint them if she wants to.
