Hello, my name is Emily Lane, and I am currently undertaking a Masters in Equine Science at Hartpury College. For my Masters Thesis I am investigating the use of horseshoe studs in the equine industry. There is currently limited literature on how and why studs are used and any impact on the horses’ biomechanics.

I am aiming to find out from riders who use studs in the equestrian industry about their experiences of using studs in terms of general use and the effects on performance. It is intended that the findings will be used as a basis for further research.
The age of consent for this questionnaire is 18 and over.

If you are interested in this topic and use studs in your horse's shoes please fill out this questionnaire which takes approximately 10 minutes.

For further information on this project, or any queries, please contact emily.lane@hartpury.ac.uk

Thank you very much for taking your time to read and participate in this study.

I did a fair bit of it then gave up as it is far too limited in the options, there are far too many variables to give specific answers to some questions, I may use studs for 1 horse but not another on the same day, they may have them in 4 shoes for one discipline at an event and only 2 in another, it is a good idea but needs more thought, I am not sure if studs are allowed in polo or polocross not something I have been involved in, but they are certainly not permitted in racing.

Done.
You didn't actually ask anything about the effects on performance though?

Thank you for your feedback. I realise I have not covered all aspects of stud use in this survey, but I have tried to add options to comment as much as possible throughout the survey. However any extra information is very helpful, and if you wish to comment further you can contact me via email. All feedback is very much appreciated.

Thank you very much for your feedback, I realise the survey doesn't cater for every situation, for example multiple horses as you have said. In such cases a typical example of use is very helpful, and any extra information you wish to add, such as your comment here, is also very useful. If you would like to, please feel free to contact me via email. All contributions are gratefully accepted.
