Due to my never ending supply of different weight rugs I am thinking of consolidating & trying the liner system, but was wondering if the liners slip.

Can anyone give me any feedback please as I seem to waste an awful lot of money on rugs - but that's just normal isn't it? :D

They're great, I'm currently borrowing a Rambo Duo from a friend and I'm a complete convert. Its the only TO that Gerry has but its so versatile that its the only one he needs. The liners clip into the rug so they don't seem to slip. I did lose one completely the other day but I suspect his field companion may have pulled it out with his teeth.

I have a Rambo Duo and a Rhino Medium Weight Stable, then a 300, 200, 100 liners

When I bought the new horse I worked out it actually worked out chepaer to buy the above than to buy each seperate weight rug (I usually buy Rambo light weight turnouts and everything else weatherbeeta). Although I did get my Duo in a summer sale for £160...

This is my 2nd winter and not one liner has ever slipped. I even had 2 liners on on some of the very cold days we've had. I attached the bottom one to the outer rug and then both to the clips at the back and I was very impressed that they didn't move one inch on my big girl that loves a roll!

The other good thing I've found is that when you take a wet rug off, if you detach the liner and put it somewhere else, then you always have a totally dry rug to put on in the morning (unlike the slight dampness you get with the inside of other rugs)

Thanks wellsat, do they clip in at the front and back?

If you managed to lose one that makes me think one of mine might disgard hers on a regular basis too - she manages to slip out of her rugs without undoing any clips from time to time!

They have velcro fastenings at the front (in a similar place to where neck covers attach) and clips onto the back fillet string.

Yes, they have velcro loops at the shoulders and then clips onto the fillet string at the back. I've been using them for three months now and its the first time one slipped at all, it only happened because I'd layered two liners. If you layer the liners you can't clip them all in at the front.

Clip the one nearest the skin to the outer rug. Then it sandwiches the one in the middle and it can't move.

I have a Rambo Duo, outer is 100 gram , and i have a 200 gram liner ive had them 5 years now and its still like new . although its a little neat on my horse and i only ever use the outer part of it .

I also have the Fal Commander, outer is 200 gram, and i have a 200 gram liner ive had them 4 years now i use this the most as Fal rugs fit my horse much much better . and again i only ever use the outer part of it .

Rambo Duo was £275 when bought
Fal Commander was £175 when bought

Both are Fantastic rugs .

well im not happy with mine and keep meaning to email them but don't know if it would do any good :(

bought one when my horse was a 3yrs old ,it was fab loved it ,it was the old navy blue one it is now 4yrs old and has seen better days it has loads of holes in it that have been patched and is still water proof and never rubbed him.
he has out grown it now and it doesn't fit him anymore :( however i liked it so much i bought him a new bigger one.
its has rubbed him :( and the straps keep falling of it ,it is just not the same quality as the origonal one i bought ,what an absolute waste of £250 :(

Ok thanks everyone - I am a bit unsure about clipping to the fillet string as I have to take the fillets strings off for one of my girls & replace with elastic. That might make me have a rethink.

Christi I always get on really well with Rambos, but bought Fal Chieftans in the autumn in 40g as I wanted lightweight rugs due to the mild weather. They have been a complete waste of money - not only were they far too hot (just as hot as my 200g rambos) but after wearing them for a month or so the inside seams have ripped in various places. I know they are the budget version but I have been really disappointed with them.

I really love this rug - I've had a Duo for 5 years now I think - never had slipping problems and definitely the most economical rug system I've had. Liners go in the washing machine, no probs, get the outer washed and reproofed each year but it makes a turnout and stable rug combined, so I've found it brilliant value - and no nasty mane or chest rubs.

Is the Duo a 100g rug? I really am looking for a rug with no fill so I can add whichever liners I want but also have a rainsheet for summer.

You don't clip to the fillet string, only to the same metal clasps that the fillet string would tie to?

Yes is 100g fill.

But you shouldn't have a problem with the clips.... it clips onto the rings the fillet string attached on to.... so the rings will still be there even if you removed the actual fillet string

Ah ok, I get it now with regards to the clips at the back - it should still work then.

I will have to do some research & see what no fill ones they do. I think the Optimo is 0g but I'm not sure about it as I haven't seen any feedback on one yet. I would also like a 100g neck cover so hopefully I can find something.

It sounds like the liners actually work well so I will start looking.

the Fal company was bought over ? 2 or ? 3 years ago and the quality ive heard is Utterly Terrible ! i have Never bought any of the Fal rugs since they were bought over because of this reason

The original Fal rugs are fantastic quality and last for years and years , i still check Ebay and online tack shops and buy all the Original Fal rugs i can find .....

i also have Fal original Warrior rugs , Bulldog rugs , and Terrier Rugs and ever 1 of them are Fantastic , and have had most of them for up to 9 years now .

I cant rate Original Fal rugs high enough !

Good Luck in your rug search :)

You can get the rambo supreme in a no fill version (i'm about to order one) and as long as you make sure it is a new version it has the attachments for the liner system.

Its seems you have an Original 1st made Rambo Duo as i have ( navy blue duo) , maybe the quality on the later ones are not as great ?

hi yes the blue one (older) was fantastic ,i just don't think the new one's are made the same despite my horse being older and wiser and kept somewere with better fencing the new one is just literaly falling to bits
old one is still going strong not lost a buckle yet

won't waste my money on another rambo rug now and i also wasted my money on a new fal rug equaly as rubbish :(

i stick with weatherbeater now ,never rubbed or fallen to pieces :)

hey have a read at my earlier post re Fal rugs , it night explain why you feel the Fal you have is rubbish !

I have a blue Rambo Duo which is now coming up for 5yrs old and is still like new when washed. Been a fab rug and never had a problem with it atall. Just bought my other horse the brown one, still as impressed as was originally, it has new bits and pieces on it like quick release surcingles and an extra velcro fastener on the chest. Will always like these rugs and as rugwashing is my job, I see a fair few rugs come through to compare quality! They come with a 3yr guarantee so if anyone has a problem with them, take it back.

If you can get hold of one 3 of us on the yard have weatherbeeta tri-stars and they are brilliant and have held up really really well, really pleased with mine (couldn't afford the rambo duo :p ) :)

I've had a navy Rambo Duo for 2 years and have been mostly pleased with it. The rug fits well & has been completely waterproof but the velcro fastenings on the rug which attach the neck cover have come off and the neck cover is too tight for my 15.3 medium weight mare. The liners have never slipped though.

I believe some people like the Premier Equine Trio rug & liner system which includes more liners/neck covers for less money plus the neck covers are supposed to be more generous than the Rambos.

I bought a larger neck cover for my Duo as the original one was tight, the new one cost me £40 but I got £20 for the old one on ebay. I also use the liners under his stable rug when it's really cold. I've never had a problem with layering them. Only problem with mine is the front velcro which doesn't always stay closed, but there are clips at the front as well.

Think thats why the new ones have a second velcro fastener on the chest. Unfortunately velcro does lose its strength after time but you can get velcro "combs" which can get rid of bits like hay, hair which may become stuck to it.
