Just tried out a Rhino rug on my boy (huge thanks everyone here who helped me work out how to put it on)

I absolutely love the it, it's so secure and seems a lot more comfortable for him so I have decided to replace all my rugs.
Given that they are quite pricey and we have very few distributers in Australia I was hoping to get some input from you lovely people before I go and drain the bank account 😂

1. My boy is a 6.0' in other rugs but the Rhino I got is a tad snug. Are the sizings generally small? Should I go up a size.
2. Do people prefer the Rambo, Rhino or Amigo rugs for fit and comfort? And are the sizes 'snug' across them all?
3. Any recommendations on a particular rug from this range for a horse which runs warm but still needs protection from heavy rain and freezing winds, because field shelters are just there for show.

Sorry for all the questions and thanks if you read all that!

My mare was always a size larger in any Horseware rugs. Usually a 6'3" we would always go for a 6' 6" in Horseware. My advice don't even bother with the Amigos, the quality of those these days is rubbish. Stick to Rambo at the very least. Personally my favourite for all weights is still the Rambo original turnouts.

Having said all that I have now changed to Premier Equine rugs purely because they were a much better fit on my very big and hefty chested gelding. And I found them lighter to chuck up on his 17.3 body!😊

I've just bought a Rhino turnout too, haven't tried it on yet as it just arrived! Will try later and report back. I did my research and the quality is much better in the Rhino and Rambo rugs, amigo is very flimsy and reflective in the price. The Amigo seems very narrow, we have an amigo fly rug and it's tight on our narrow mare.
Rambo is just too expensive for me unfortunately....

My plan is to get a few liners and use the Rhino as my main turnout this winter. Also have a Rhino stable rug on the way x

Horseware rugs generally fit tb horses quite well so narrow chested horses but just yes try a size up. . There is no room for adjustment on the front fastenings of them and that's a big problem we see. I don't know why horseware have made them like this. The disk closures have a bit more adjustment but not many of their rugs have those.
So a size up is better but may be too big on the body or a chest expander.

The rambos are the best. I tend to buy lightweight Amigos though as they are cheaper to replace and keep my rambos for winter. You can buy liners so the one Rambo rug could cover all weather.
I also really like the wugs. They were good for my TB who felt the cold a bit more but I didn’t want a full neck on.

Can confirm the Rhino is a more generous fit than the Amigo. It's actually pretty good for ours, she is a narrow ISH so am told Horsewear and Shires are the best fit for that type. Not the disc front though as those are better for horses with a good.shoulder.

She us usually 5ft 6. The Rhino 5ft 6 we have fits fine, wouldn't want it any smaller. The amigo is much tigher across her chest at 5ft 6. I'm going to use liners with it anyway so wanted it a bit looser.

Rambos are the best if you can afford them, they fit true to size. rhinos run a little smaller, amigos are best for narrow chested horses.

Amigos fit my Welsh A perfectly, but he has very narrow shoulders. He’s in an amigo bug rug at the moment which is perfect on him but would be narrow on a wider pony.

Don’t bother with the mio range, you tend to get what you pay for with Horseware Ireland IME.

The Rambo summer series is a great waterproof fly rug.

My Rhinos are 6ft, one is on a 15hh and the other a 14.1. Fits the larger horse who is a true 6ft far better but I was sent the wrong size and didn’t think there would be much difference between a 5’9 and a 6 but there is. I also have a brand new Rambo 6ft heavyweight stable rug which swamps the larger one so I’ve never used it as it doesn’t fit either of them.

I find they fit well on the shoulders and never rub anywhere but they are both finely built so more on the narrow side.

All my rugs are really old, now as they were bought between ten and twenty years ago.
I have Amigo, Rambo and Weatherbeata ones for Old Horse. I have a rug for every contingency, don't get them cleaned or re-proofed anymore and he seems to manage quite well with whatever the YO or grooms decide is best for the day. So far, none of them leak. However, I think that being made in Great Britain rather than China has been a plus for their longevity and waterproof qualities.

I find the Rhinos not as generous as Weatherbeeta but more than Amigos. Not tried a Rambo. I also found the Amigos I had leaked.

I like the Wugs in a high neck.

Thank you! Very helpful info. I think I will go for the Rambo's, they seem to be the most popular and I like the idea of the liners. I might try to hold off until there is a sale though😂

We have bought in to the Rambo liner system - it is so versatile. Managed to find unwashed outer rugs 2nd hand, and bought liners / use liners we already had. The rugs are holding up really well. I think the olest we have is 5 years old maybe? I love that the liners can be washed as often you like. On our TB's they are true to size and fit really nicely, even on the chunky ex flat racer.
