'Horsewoman beats teenager's car with riding crop'

Exactly what gemin1eye said - spot on!

And to all those claiming beeping a horn will cause horse to go berserk and throw itself on to the bonnet of the car - I've not seen many dressage reports in HHO (or ever, come to think of it) of judges signalling to start a test and causing a horrendous scene... It's not like the kid wound the window down and blasted off an air horn! Have some perspective, please.

Both of them are complete idiots.

The driver for beeping his horn (18, inexperienced....) and the rider for her reaction.

When I read it, I was appalled at her behaviour. Way to go for putting riders in a bad light. Not only did she rider her horse at him, but no she lobbed her whip at him too! How stupid and dangerous.
If that has been a walker who startled her and she threw her whip at them, it would have been assault. What a drama queen. She should learn how to behave and ride on the road, then she probably wouldn't encounter such problems.

Agree

He got away with it so now he'll be an even more arrogant menace on the road. Until he smashes his car up horribly. Hopefully he'll live to tell the tale and not hurt anyone. If someone had taught him a bit of respect then the rider wouldn't have been put in that situation in the first place. I don't blame her one bit. Notice the little Jessie wouldn't get out of the car and talk to her...

Even as a horse rider myself, if somebody rode at me and chucked a whip at my car, I wouldn't get out. She sounds dangerous!

I don't see what the make or cost of his car has to do with it.. If your a bad driver your bad driver in all vehicles, you don't need speed to act like a fool... (I see plenty of stupid behaviour from drivers in 1 litre corsa's)..

The car type has nothing to do with it, I agree. Seems like a lot of green eyes have read that article...

the way i read the story is that the woman and her chum were having a nice ride out, 2 abreast so they can have a nice chinwag (and why shouldnt they, the highway code says you can ride 2 abreast and it doesnt matter if manners fly out the window as a result). young chap drives up behind and cant get past. ignorant woman is letting her mustang wander all over the road as he is trying to pass, while she is still engrossed in conversation about X Factor so he gives her a gentle reminder that shes on a public highway and should be bleeding well paying attention. the car the bloke drives or the fact he has already received 3 points on his license dont have anytbing to do with this situation. the stupid woman is completely in the wro.g imo. she should have noticed the driver coming up behind and either trotted on or stopped so he could easily overtake. common courtesy aint it. manners.

This exactly. The horn was maybe a bit much, but I have wound down my window before and shouted out at riders could they please move out of the way so I can pass them safely (though this was four girls riding across the whole road, in a 40mph limit, with no idea there were 8 other cars waiting behind them!)

Have the DM run out of ideas for news stories ? I can at least 3 occasions people have beeped their horn out hacking at me, once was a car full of teenagers shouting out the window. Did my horse run wildly like a lunatic into the bonnet with me ... no. Nor did i launch my whip at them like a javelin ( too much effort getting off to pick it up). Life goes on, driver will hopefully now be fully aware of how to act round horses.

Lol!

How ridiculous on both parts. I've had plenty of rude drivers pass us but wouldn't ever throw my whip at the car!!! I think she may be being a tad dramatic by saying she hasn't ridden since as she's so scared of something happening - get a grip! Not winning much sympathy i'm afraid.
