Horsey acrobatics -According to some this horse's welfare is being compromised!!! :)

Thanks for the foal comments - I have stolen him from his owners until he is backed and broken next spring at least :D

Lex...she's staaaarrrving!!! :D LOL we are working at getting off her baby fat :)

Should save the mare's pride by posting how pretty she is with her puppy dog eyes

Very smart lady - so glad the lad's parents bought her in the end, they look happy together :)

She is very pretty indeed :D

As to antics, riding one pony bareback in a headcollar or bridle (depends on what was to hand) and leading five others back to their field after a day at the riding school :D. Jumping down (jumping) lanes sans stirrups and reins and taking off one's jacket as one went (now that one was always good for a giggle). Jumping a course sans stirrups and reins (that was just hysterical). And lots of other things that were so much fun and made for some brilliant summers.

Maybe these days, H&S apart, it is the ease at which we share and watch over actions and antics. In 'our day' the only 'mobile' phone was a phone box lol. We'd be out from dawn 'till dusk and parents didn't worry, or not too much anyway, and only those with us knew what we were doing. It didn't become big or clever, you did what you could do; sometimes people would try and out do each other, which usually ended up in a bashed hip or scrapped knee, but we weren't broadcasting it to the world.

Just my musings, but sometimes I think that now we 'communicate' far too much for our own good, I know I do...:cool:

The H an S police have ruined many a childhood now ;)

Mind you, if my parents knew what we got up to on our "own a pony weeks" they'd have probably had second thoughts about getting rid of us ! I was either terrified or ectastic, usually both at the same time ;)

Oh dear, our pony will be taken away by the RSPCA if they find out about daughter's untacking technique!

Brilliant! :D:D:D:D

PS: Have called the RSPCA and they did not want to know:( next stop is childline :) is there a button I can push to get this offensive, nay dangerous post reported :D

On a more serious note, is it so good to see a child enjoying her pony without the fear that current H&S rules encourage.

Sadly I think you are probably right. The other bit that concerns me is that kids are not able to learn as much as we did. I know of places where they are not allowed to do sissors any more or round the world, both of which I have used to get me out of sticky situations where I was not able to dismount and had been bit of a plank (ie too busy looking at the fauna to notice that we are now stuck in it!).

What I don't get is parents allowing their kids to do really dumb things that are so obviously dangerous and going to end in an accident. Photos show lovely calm (slightly bored) ponies being very amenable but I have known parents to let kids do this stuff with very flighty nervous animals...

Time and a place for Elfin Safety.

What is it with me today I am being very boring!

You may jest, but I did consider posting this video when I first took it a couple of months ago, but decided against it because I thought some of the killjoys on here would cackle. However, I'm feeling brave today and if someone wants to have a go, then let them!

ALMOST as brave as your daughter!!! :D :D :D

How do they get their saddles off Mrs M? By sitting on the "weakest part of the horses back" or something?"!

Oh dear, some of the 'elfansafety comments are like reading a Jeremy Clarkson article in the Sun. If you want to blame someone for nanny state-ism and stupid H&S rules, blame risk-averse insurance companies and no win-no fee solicitors, not HSE.

ETA - sorry to be a killjoy, I'm not completely po-faced, when I learned to ride my sadistic RI used to make us jump grids bareback, with our eyes shut, doing heads/shoulders/waist/knees/toes and singing a Christmas carol, I loved it & I still like bombing around bareback on my mare, it's like connecting with my inner teenager ;)

Love the video that's ace!

We had a little lad at the riding school I had my pony at that asked if he could show us something once at the end of his lesson one. He then proceeded to stand up all by himself on this little pony and jumped off Frankie Dettori (sp) style. Was so cute, once he'd done it once he wanted to do it all the time. The look on my instructors face was ace.

Brill :D

Has anyone seen the mounted police going down a row of jumps whilst taking their saddles off? :D

Yep, one of my old schoolmates in in the display team - scared me to death watching him recently! I remember (at my riding school) vaulting onto a pony from the back, running up to his bum and praying he wouldn't buck, being taught to get on at walk AND trot, round the world, scissors, oh - and side saddle jumping on a normal saddle... them were the days!

Fantastic video!
Not sure if im brave enough to attempt to take off a saddle while still on a horse, closest ive got to horsey arobics is 'around the worlds' at the childrens riding stables i went to when i was little :)
