Hi All,

I am looking for a new book to read and would like a real life horsey story. I noticed on a previous thread that the was someone thinking of writing thier own story of her horses life. It got me thinking that there must be people who have put thier stories on paper (I have not heard/ cant think of any though), I would like to read someones story from the start and see how they got through the hard times ect. Most of the horsey books I have read are Black Beauty, war Horse ect. Can anyone recomend any good ones?
Thanks :)

Doh!! why did I not think of Hovis diary, defo need a copy!

I really like the look of Summer with Tommy by Caroline Silver, and also from what I can find Google / amizon Eighty Dollar Champion seems like a good read. Thanks!

I have bought a book called Horsey life by Simon Barnes, not actually read it yet but hope it will be good!?
:)

Chosen By A Horse by Suzanne Richards was a really good book that I enjoyed reading, although it did make me a bit weepy in places!

Or, any of Mark Rashid books. They are written in an anecdotal style, but really lovely and though provoking - it certainly made me really think about my relationship with my horse and they are books I go back to re-read time and time again.

Hovis's Friday Diaries

Any of mark rashid's books

When sophie met darcy day

The horses of proud spirit

Beyond the homestretch

Ozzie the story of a young horse

Pippa Funnell, Mary King, Mark Todd, William Fox Pitt's autobiography's

Enjoy xxx

The Horsey Life is very good, very down to earth author!

And, although it's not real life, I just have to recommend Blind Beauty by KM Peyton. It's the best book I have ever read (and I have read quite a few!) and have read it about 15 or 20 times. Know most of it word to word. Basic overview is on Amazon.

Horse Heaven by Carol Smiley . . . not a literal, word-for-word true account but certainly based in truth . . . it's about four racehorses and told in their "voices."

Very good.

Second Chosen by a Horse and SeaBiscuit too . . . also anything written by Mark Rashid.

Lastly, if you want a lighthearted read . . . try some of the horsey Jilly Cooper books . . . Riders, Polo and Jump are all good (Jump is the latest - it's about national hunt racing).

In The Pink by Molly Watson.

Really hilarious, I've read it twice now. It's the story of 2 sisters who decamp from London to hunt for a season with the Ledbury. My mum loved it too even though she's not into hunting at all.

Thanks all! seems like there are loads of really good ones out there, just got to look in the right places, or ask like minded people :) ! I like the sound of Horse Heaven, love when books / stories are written from horses point of view, reall makes you think and LAUGH!
I have started reading horsey life and (3 chapers in haha) I do like the style of the writing, really easy so read after a long day at work and doing horses! xx
