Do you ever (I'm suspecting and sort of hoping the answer might be yes!) have moments with your horses where you just have a bit of a lapse?

I'm currently sitting on the sofa, BHS book on one side, YouTube on the other, because it has recently come to my attention that I can no longer do a quick release knot. I must have done this hundreds of times as a kid but there seems to be no sense of muscle memory for this at all after a good 7 or 8 years since I was regularly doing horse things. What's weirder is that I didn't know if I could remember how to tie up a haynet - turns out yes I can which I was quite pleased about...but it's the same knot is it (k)not?! Why brain, why?!

Do not even go there on diagonals, I can tell the difference and sort the correct one on horse I have ridden for 16 years but can not feel it on NH. My brain to bum function is not quick enough to know which shoulder is back when my bum is in the saddle!

Yes I use the same knot for both. There are a few ways to tie a quick release knot though. Get the belt off your bathrobe and practice on the banister rail.

Had a good practice last night and I think I've got it back, phew! :D

So weird that I did the hay net straight away then went to tie up lead rope and was like: 'errrmm...'

Sitting here I don’t think I could actually tell you how I do it, but give me a leid rein and a tie up and I’ll do it no problem ?‍♀️

This is what I hoped would happen - that my hands would just remember what to do but nope, and my brain was no help either so I've had to re-learn it. I've got it again now!

I found recently that I had completely forgotten how to do the quick release with multiple loops - the sort where you pull one end and the whole lot undoes in one. Good for horses who fiddle with the lead rope

Got it, took pic with the quick release knot undoing horse to remind me if I forget again... She can still undo it, but it takes her longer!

I used to know this one too - where you start with threading a loop through the twine rather than threading the end of the rope? I tried to figure that one out last night too but couldn't find any videos of it and thought just knowing the one will do for now! :D

Forgetting how to plant. Always do mares tail up for farrier mind totally blank just staring at the three strands of tail. Ended up just tying it in a knot.

I just cannot do diagonals correctly for some reason. I have been riding for 25 years and I still cannot fathom how to know when I am on the right one, even looking down does not help me. It's like my brain cannot do it!

Not related to horses this one, but.....

I had two children at primary school. One day I collected the eldest, as the younger one was doing an after school club. I got home, put the kettle on, started to sort out lunch boxes etc, and casually asked "What day is it today?" OMG, all hell broke loose, as I suddenly realised I was a day in front of myself, and actually, the youngest one didn't have after school club that day, and would be sitting at school, wondering where the hell I was!

I grabbed my keys, ran out the door, whilst phoning school and shouting to my DH what had happened. The look my youngest gave me when I walked in to pick her up was evil, and she just said "You forgot to pick me up Mummy!"

I still haven't lived that one down......

Terrible parent!!! :)

I left my daughter at a bus stop! unloaded all my shopping off the back of the push chair onto the bus, paid my fair and sat down. Luckily the bus driver knew me as it was a small company going to the quiet villages and not many passengers. He turned round, smiled and said 'I think you have forgotten something' and nodded in the direction of the sleeping child in the pushchair on the pavement. The guilt!!!!
