What's on yours ??

Today has made me think cos although I've had a small canter across stubble fields out autumn hunting on my girl last year I've always (22 years of riding since I was a toddler ) wanted to hear the wind whistle past my face as I cantered my horse alone across stubble ...... Well today my mare helped me to do that , had tears in my eyes as we cantered up out of the valley and across two fields of stubble .....ahhhhhhhhh huge smile love my little mare

My others are compete at sj = done again on my little mare
Xc / hunter trial ..... Going in three weeks
Back and break my own horse :) all done again thanks to this mare
Hunt on Boxing Day on above horse :) done
Do a small ode ..... Next years plan :)
Gt over my fear of cantering down hill.... Did this today verrrrrrry scared at beginning but let my girl look after me
And I never thought I'd say this .... Do a dressage test as never done one so looking at an intro test over winter
Also to jump 3 ' courses in next couple years

I've always had horses at home or on private yards and have un horsey parents , I'm grateful they supported and paid for my horses as a kid but a touch f local shows is all I did and then I hacked , hacked and hacked some more on lethal horses all of which I turned around to be great horses and sold on

Now I have produced my girl after buying a yearling and wanting her as a happy hacker , she's now hunted twice , show jumped (only u to 2'3 at comps ) galloped across stubble , got over my fear of down hill at speed , preparing her for Xc and can hack her anywhere alone n any traffic :)

Now what's your to do list ?

Sounds like you have achieved a lot - well done :)
My riding horse now retired - so I'd like another to ride - to do a bit of eventing, plus my retired mare to go on forever in good health :)
With retired horse I did almost everything I could have wanted with her (including going on hols), the only thing I would have liked to have done is galloped along the beach/taken her to the gallops.
I have galloped along a beach several times - every time i go on hols I like to ride if at all poss (as long as horses look in good nick!). Best gallop ever on private ride in Barbados, got to race the groom along a beach (no one else about) Went back a couple of years later, asked for same horse and this time I won!!

Where are you shooting star? I took my dad for a driving lesson with Bennington Carriages, near Newark. It was fab. By the end we were doing cones flat out - such fun! (Sorry bit of a theme here, I do like to go fast!).
I've also had polo lessons which were great. I'd like a go at Western and I'd love, love, love to take a racing tb up the gallops - although realise that this is very much a pipe dream!

I'm in the south east, I'm sure there is driving around us just never got round to doing it ... Yet! Polo is good fun (I was hopeless unless I could stay in trot :p) and have had a try at Western but wasn't really my cup of tea.

Perhaps put it on your Christmas list - then up to someone else to book for you!
I bought it for my Dad for Fathers Day last year - so we went together, then had a family lunch after (mum and my husband came to watch). Made a nice day out :)

I can't say I was good at polo - couldn't hit the ball thing hardly at all! Just loved how responsive the ponies were and that it was so much fun. We had a yard day out and split into teams. Done it a few times now and love it :)

I sound like a right old sod, but I have achieved what I aspire to.

I love this thread though, it is making me remember all sorts of stuff. I have become an AI (a childhood dream) and then II, Did SJ and won 3 Newcomers, Evented to Intermediate, won some points, completed a couple of CCI*, Hunted, galloped on the beach, swum in the sea, been a Mounted Police Officer, Trained Police horses, ridden western, competed in Western Cutting, ridden on gallops, backed a horse (or two), bought my own place with horses, trained with FAB riders, trained fab clients, been in clinics, taught clinics, won points BD, competed BHS Le Trec...... Modest achievements as compared with some, but a blast for me, every one of them.

I think my limited aptitude for jumping (NOT reliable to see a stride!) means I will not "progress" further in jumping, but I have only ridden to Elementary Dressage, and with my advancing age I am looking at doing more of this. Jay is really a jumper not a dressage horse, but I would like to get him and I to Medium level, so I guess this would be my bucket list. We went to Regionals at Novice this year, and I guess it would be nice to qualify and go to the nationals...

I have also always looked in awe at the ridden safari holidays.

TBH, having started in a single parent non horsey family, and fought my way up by presenting myself in dealer yards and asking for experience (some of which was fantastic when riding horses I could barely dream of, or painful when being chucked on the floor by a horse in for re-schooling) I have already surpassed whatever expectations I ever had. I have had a load of fun along the way.

The biggest reward though has been travelling to America and learning a whole new way to be, both with horses and away from them.

My horsey ambitions are very tame! Main one is to retire so I can spend more time with them.

I always wanted to go hunting (bloodhounds) and did manage to get to the opening meet once! Would love to do it again on my Bilbo who I think would look after me, having scared myself cubbing on my last horse.

I also love cross country, as long as it is below 2 feet - having entered a 70cm class earlier this year then withdrawn after walking the course (I think my metric to feet conversion must have gone awry as they looked about 4 feet tall!) I would love to do a tiny xc course.

And I'd like to ride my youngster Xas. I have had him since he was 6 months old, he has been backed by a lightweight rider now he is 3, but i am waiting until he is 4 until I get on as I am a couple of stones heavier.

But mainly, I'd just like to keep my 2 horses and me healthy and sound so we can potter about as I'd still like to be riding when I am 80! (51 now)

Oh PS - for those with riding safari ambitions - I have been lucky enough to do that and thoroughly recommend it. I have been with Limpopo Valley Horse Safaris who are wonderful - such well looked after, happy horses.

For me the main thing on my list was to have my own horse and I finally did that last November at the grand old age of 34!

I had 2 bad falls in big fields off bolting horses so my big dream is to take my boy into a stubble field for a canter and actually enjoy it. Ditto at the beach! Though I have done it twice on holiday but that was before my bolting accidents.

I wanted to do a dressage competition and this summer we did 2 and came first and second!

I am also hoping to try a ridden showing class next year. My friend rode my boy for me at a local show a few weeks ago and he won his class!

And most of all, I would love to buy a house with land and stables and bring Miller home and get a pony for my daughter!

3 things on my bucket list:

Ride an advanced medium
Breed a keeper foal
Own a 4* eventer

The first two are more likely than the last one!

Miller1979 we should get together - a gallop in a stubble field and on a beach (and enjoy it!) are on my bucket list too (as is buying my own place with land, but think this may be better off on my day-dream list!). I'd like to have a go on a gallops too.
Umm - just realised all mine are speed related - what does that say about me - while I enjoy my leisurely hacks, secretly I'm a speed freak?!

Great minds obviously Mrs G!! :) I think it's that romantic picture of galloping along in harmony with your best friend and the wind whistling in your ears!!

I have a gallops at the livery yard we are at and have cantered on it twice. I did try a little push on up the hill and it felt great but I was happily enclosed on both sides and with my coach following behind!
