They make my eyes bleed.

In the last 24 hours alone I've seen one person give a mare (with sweet itch) and foal away 'free to good home'....except the very first person (a random teenager with the usual trout pout and half naked pictures) asked "Can I 'ave 'em?"...they get given away...despite said teenager saying she hasn't got anywhere to put them yet and owner wants them gone by Friday 'or they are going to a dealer who isn't that great with welfare'. On same said site, within a couple of hours, another trout pout teenager looking no older than 14 posts asking if anyone has 'a pony 14-15hh for sale, cheap, no more than £500'. Followed by numerous responses pointing her in the direction of cheap horses for sale, including one who offers her own Sec D colt.....

Sad times.

The worst I've seen was an advert for a 20 yo mare, sold from the field for £500, described as having had a traumatic past and sometimes being uncertain of people, but who could make a "super dressage horse in the right hands." Really? I've never seen anything so sad. Even worse, when it was raised that it was extremely irresponsible of her to sell her on, most people took the seller's side, saying 20 was definitely not too old to be in work (and so entirely missing the point.) Really sad.

Yes same with this one happybear - when suggested it perhaps wasn't responsible to be giving away a mare with sweet itch to anyone, loads of people piped up sticking up for the seller. It's so so sad.

They can be awful can't they. I've had a few 'heated debates' on my local one with people trying to sell aged horses; one advert was for a 24 y/o part bred arab who was 'stiff when he first comes out of the stable but trained in half pass and canter pirouettes so would make a great schoolmaster'. He needed to go on loan because he was no longer suitable for a riding school and apparently he couldn't cope with being retired to the field, even though he lived out most of the time.

And there are loads of chavvy people (I know I sound like a snob) selling indiscriminately bred youngsters - generally overweight people riding them without tack and the rider not wearing a hat. Also lots of people selling horses that need to be gone asap with a sob story. It really highlights how some people shouldn't have horses, or go anywhere near animals to be honest.

They're very depressing :( lots of backyard-bred youngsters and older horses going for peanuts, or people who've had 2 lessons looking for (as far as I can tell) an Olympic standard horse either cheap or free.

Yes, it was other people's attitudes to it that was really upsetting. In fact, one person suggested that the seller would struggle to sell her for £500 as they hadn't managed to shift their older horse for that much and "he was a hunter". The seller then replied that she wouldn't want her to go for any less, as "anyone could have her then". The mind boggles!

Oh I can't stand them, I just don't read them at all because they are full of morons. I know that everyone has to learn and be able to ask apparently silly questions but I just can't be doing with the "my horse has a huge gash on her leg, it's been there for 6 months and hasn't healed, now it's got maggots in it, can I put Savlon on it, no b!tchy comments plz am trying to do the best for my horse". It's the fact that every question ends with "no nasty/ b1tchy comments plz" that really winds me up. Grrr, you left your horse with a manky leg for 6 months / bleeding eyes / hopping around on two legs / fed it on just polos and carrots and wonder why it isn't in a v good state, then expect people to be *nice* to you?!

Morons, the lot of them!!

Yep, really sad reading. :( I can't bear the pictures of really badly put together, thin, moth eaten looking cob youngsters described as 'stunning!'. I hate the ads with 'need it gone by the end of the week or will be shot' comment and I hate buyers ads that ask for the moon on a stick but end with 'no silly prices'.
:(

:(

And those buyers are usually asking for a competition horse who is a perfect gent, XC/ SJ/ DR safely up to 1m, hacks out down the motorway without batting an eyelid, never had a day sick, lame or sorry, under 8yo, 15.2hh, for under £500 and must come with tack and rugs "as I'm a bit skint ATM". Grr.

One on all things horsey suffolk. Starts off with 'MUST GO' that gets my hackles up for a start, followed by ' broken to ride'. The baby is just over 2 yrs old!

I left all the horsey selling sites. Still belong to a few others including HHO, luckily it doesn't seem to attract 'that certain element' of horsey life!

I see it all the time too, over here in fact it's actually quite common because people seem to think that it's ok to keep a horse on it's own in about 20 m2 all year round, wormer, vaccinations, horse shoes ? Unheard of ! or mostly.

This morning I logged on (after about a year) to see a girl jumping her pony down an ally way (hard floor) over a jump made out of random bits of crap, the poor pony had about 2 strides room before and after the jump as there were brick walls at each end of the very short alley. She had no hat on, riding in trainers and hoody flapping about all over the place, what a mess.

Remembered why I hadn't logged on for so long.

I think this is the reason the horse world is in crisis, it costs more to care for a horse than it does to buy it. People don't seem to get this, so when the costs start to mount up the horse is neglected.

It makes me so sad that all these trusting animals are being offloaded willy nilly.

If you want a cheap horse buy a wooden one!

They make me cringe. I run two, but i keep it strict. No free horses, no horses that look like death, no dealers, teenager posts are usually deleted along with the annoying "what should the show name for my horse be" and i remove photos of anyone riding dangerously or kids not wearing a hat/shoes. The competition page doesn't attract any of the crap, so it is full of good decent horses and barely monitored lol

The ones that get up my nose are "Need help with a show name for my boy/girl?" with a blurry pic of it in a rug, lying down in a muddy field. So. Annoying.

And pics of horse's private parts - I've never had a mare/gelding before, is this normal? How do I clean it? Then someome suggests that if you don't wash your gelding's sheath at least once per month it will die of cancer...

Not forgetting the posters who are looking for a full loan, something suitable for a nervous novice. Then you see them commenting on ads for hot competition horses... then once a week, same poster is looking for tack, rugs and livery for their new loan horse (which they haven't tried yet) agreeing to buy various things from different people who comment. Two weeks later, they are now looking for different sized tack for a different horse as previous loan 'didn't work out' but they've found a new one. And so the cycle continues. Myself and others commenting exactly that and suggesting they just save up and buy a suitable horse as clearly having no luck with a loan, to be met with responses like 'It's hard to save for the right one'... Even harder to keep one, love!

I'm a total glutton for punishment though, as much as I hate them, I just can't remove myself from the groups lol.

I don't have anything to do with Faceache, but given the number of fakers on this site, I suspect 90% of the rubbish people post there is actually all a pack of lies and confabulation. They lead such pathetic, petty, boring lives that sticking rubbish on the internet to be read by gazillions of equally moronic people is their idea of having fun.

If I was daft enough to read it in the first place, I take it with a VERY big pinch of salt.

Sadly, I don't think any of it is lies - these people really do post things like that and genuinely think it's ok to just give horses away etc.

I also think it's slightly harsh to say that anyone who happens to be on FB and read things is 'moronic' ;-)

Then you get people like me who would love a horse of their own but can't afford one and have no where to keep one so refuse to get one and continue riding riding school horses.

Starting to think i'm rare after going on some horsey facebook pages.

I've had to take myself off of some on the horse FB groups, i can't afford a horse but some pull at my heart strings and i just want to buy them and make them happy...

Its terrible so many lovely/perfect horses being auctioned for nothing :(

The problem is LM, is that many of them really are not perfect, hence why they are being given away for peanuts to idiots who don't know what they are doing with a rocking horse, nevermind with one which has issues of some form.

It's really irritating, because there are some normal, level headed people on there selling horses, but like you, it does my blood pressure no good to see a lot of old horses being flogged for peanuts, "must go as need stable for new horse" :(

Also, the generic comment on a well put together ad selling a horse seems to be "would you consider loan" even in instances where the advert states "please no timewasters/loans/LWVTB"

Just for Embo ;) :D I honestly didn't know that was an issue, not on the sites I am on at least I don't think. I'm a great fan of people paying more attention to their horses bits though after carcinoma caught at an embarrassingly early stage!

There is a 24yo happy hacker for sale this morning as owner outgrown and wants to hunt and jump, I suspect more the latter. He looks like a lovely chap and I hope he gets a good home.

IME there's no such thing as the perfect horse. A horse without issues quickly becomes a problem with the wrong management, and vice-versa. My field full of FTGH all came as projects and took time and patience to 'fix', not money.

The issue with these facebook morons isn't money, it's brains - and it's the latter which are needed to keep a horse.

What REALLY makes me sick is the crappy dealers that break in average to poor horses, many of which have behavioural/ physical problems and then try sell them cheap saying they're just a bit green but perfect to do otherwise. There's an unfortunate animal on one of the sites this morning that is 6, has been backed 8 weeks, yet hasn't cantered yet and there's no pics of it riding..... I commented and asked why it hadn't cantered yet (not even a tiny one) and was met with a barrage of abuse saying he didn't like to rush his horses and what did I know blah blah blah. He then went as far as to send me a massive essay on private message which took me so long to read as it was illiterate basically going on about how he rode for 'top ppl' and 'top proffesionals' arghhhh I only asked a simple question!

I disagree to a certain extent. Every horse costs money, and has the potential to cost vast amounts. I understand what you are saying about the brains bit - and fully agree. But at the end of the day, money is a massively important aspect to take into consideration, and a lot of these people clearly don't have a dime to rub together when they go out and pick up cheap or free horses. The sweet itch mare for instance - it's not a cheap thing to treat or prevent properly, yet the owner gave the mare away to the very first teenager who asked if she can have it. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

Urgh. Just....urgh. These people ( or should I say ppl) make me sick to the core.

They're just ridiculous. Have you noticed when the little fan clubs come flocking too? Usually people that are on the same yard/ have bought horses off these idiots and start commenting saying X is amazing and X sells wonderful horses. Just really winds me up.

Perfect to me(iknow there not perfect),
i just get upset especially when i see older horses who have properly given there owners everything but they are too old and the owners just want rid :(

I dont understand some people, but some go to good homes so thats the best we can all hope for.
