Horsey Help needed please??? xxx

Hey guys,
Hope everyone's four-legged friends are well. I need some advice .

My mare 8 years old Welsh cob no previous health issues was given a clean bill of health in Dec! Has been having gut issues all sodding winter with runny poos and quite nasty bouts of diarrhea would have weeks of dry normal ones then back to cow pats me being the paranoid owner I am got the vet out when it first started in december he ran a lot of tests all clear her pluse heart rate temp etc all normal and he wasnt to concernd.

On the 19th Jan I got vet out again for another horse on the yard and asked him to look at rosie again as still having nasty bouts of it. Again he said all fine.

He asked me what had changed in her diet...

Hay she has been on hay from about Dec and is still on this now... being the sort of horse she is she can go without hay and live off air from about april. He said it could just be she is senstive to it ... Now im really not sure what to do...

Do I change suppiler ?
Would soaking it help?
Soon she can come off hay but fields still a bit bare

We have started her on a gut balancer.and she seems perfectly happy.

No hate please all I do is try... :) I would get vet out again but spent a lot of money on vet vistis and he said try not to worry..


However I do because im one of those owners

If you can make some sort of sense of this post your amazing :D

It could be a worm burden or maybe she was eating something in the field that was not agreeing with her, do you have and trees or hedges she may be eating in the winter due to a lack of grass?
 
Shes very up to date with worming and has never had a high worm burden and yeah we do but again their bare heges no evidence of them eating trees
 
If your still worried I would speak to your vet about what could be causing the bouts, I would be surprised if it were the hay causing it if it's the same hay you have been using I am not sure soaking it would make any difference, could it have been something stressing her out is she a stressy type?
 
Well yeah I was suprised when he came out with hay.. but we have ruled so much out I dont see what could be she isnt usally a stress head... x
 
One of my horses had a bout of loose droppings but it was after spending a night at the vets and when he came home he was on box rest, so we put it down to the stress of being away and change of routine I put him on protexin gut balancer and he was back to normal in 2 weeks, I know stress effects him this way so do certain drugs antibiotics and but can often upset him as well.

I would continue with the balancer and see how you go she might have just had an imbalance in the gut for whatever reason, if it returns I would speak to your vet again about any other causes.

Yeah Ive got that blancer started today and vet said see how she plays out over next few days. Thanks for your help x
 
Brill glad to here it. Id get vet out in a flash spoke on phone today and he said give this stuff a week or two I moniter her weight etc (Im a mega overprotective owner) Just hope it clears up... so strange
 
Protexin gut balance works a treat for my mare. I feed 2 scoops a day to keep her tummy settled and give extra scoops at times when she might need more e.g when the grass gets richer, so don't be afraid to up the dose when needed. The quick fix paste also worked really well when she got a seriously squitty tummy from some antiobiotics.
