Hi, I'm looking for a holiday (in Europe) which is a family kind of places for all kinds of equestrian abilities. My daughter is going to a camp so a friend and I were thinking of going somewhere after she finished camp. Preferably, the camp should have horses but allow you to bring your own horse if you have one. Also, I would like it to be a place where you get more confidence (my friend is just beginning- trots and canters and will trots a jump to 40cm) and would learn something. Any ideas? Also, if you've been there, stories will be appreciated.

Castle Leslie, Co Monaghan, Ireland caters for all levels with fabulous horses and a beautiful forest. Can bring your own horse too.

Ah, we've just spent a super few days at Freerein - www.freerein.co.uk
We went on a Self Guided Trail, but if your group aren't quite at the stage of being able to canter then they offer a Beginner and Novice holiday, that's guided.
I think (you'd need to check) that you can also hire a guide for your own group - so its just a ride tailored to your group.
We had a fab time there - the horses - staff - and organization there was really fab :)

Many years ago I twice went to Lydford Country House, Devon on a riding holiday, it was incredible. My brother was a novice and used the yards riding school horses to have lessons and hack out on and I took my own. Hacks (that are amazing) were in 2 groups novice and experienced and you could have lessons ranging from absolute beginner to a fairly advanced jumping or dressage lessons in their outdoor school. Obviously this was well over 10 years ago now so it may well have changed a bit but from the website it looks just as it was!
