Horsey lady bits?

Evening all.

Pulled out a clump about the size of a £2 coin, jet black, waxy/slightly sticky gunk from right in between Puz's lady parts.

Never had a mare before, is this normal? xx
 
How often do you clean her there? My last mare used to have little bits which accumulated between the folds which were easily cleaned with a sponge. But if I hadnt cleaned her for a while I guess the gunk would be more.
 
Er, never? Didnt know I had to and shes never itchy or uncomfortable there (I would know if she was - we have a dance we do where I put my fingers out and she moves herself to where shes itchy!!).

Will start now though! Just a sponge and water? xxx

But on the same note ...... I've never had a mare before this one on loan and am now wondering if I should clear there. If so how often etc. I had a little look yesterday and she seemed clean. Do all mares need to be clened?
 
Ok fab, and just keep on top of it when any gunk builds up?

God, these animals dont half throw you some curve balls! Never saw myself picking gunk out of a horse's lady parts at half 8 at night...!
 
Nothing to worry about at all. I guess we have to clean them there as they cant clean themselves. I used to clean my mare there everytime I bathed her or if you dont bath often then maybe once a month will be enough. Its easy to keep ontop of. A sponge and warm water should be enough.

ETA: Now cleaning my gelding's parts is something I havent had the joy of doing yet!

My OH has NEVER, in the 8 years of owning his gelding, cleaned his bits! We do peel off any particularly crusty bits if the opportunity presents itself but thats it!!
 
In the 6 years that I've owned my mare I've never had to clean out her 'lady bits' (that made me lol). I do sometimes pick bits of black gunk off of her teats though. She ALWAYS really enjoys that!
 
I clean my geldings sheath if required, he had an infection once because I followed some poor advice, if things need cleaning do it, part of having a horse.
 
I do between Bellas teats every so often and get rid of the horrid black gunk that collects there. She hasn't had such a build up of it over the winter so I'm guessing its made up of sweat,dust and other unmentionables *shudder*
 
Yes, teats do get a bit gunky and most mares rather enjoy the attention. Mine goes to sleep while I do it and I finish off with some (handwarmed0 baby lotion. But her bum is always clean without intervention, whereas the mare next door is always mucky around her bum.
 
I've known some people who clean it every day, and their mares got an infection. That area is a self-cleaning part of the body and has a delicate PH balance (like our own bits are, to a certain degree!) and washing it too often would not be a good thing.
 
My mare absolutely hates me doing that. She almost crosses her legs to crush my arm if I try. I have to use gentle surprise tactics (scratchy, scratchy tummy and work my way back!)and hope she's in a good mood! Daft horse.
 
Mine gets a gentle wipe with a damp sponge after she has had a bath - so prob every few months (never with any soapy bath water, just fresh rinse water). There are often slightly waxy black bits that come off on the sponge. I don't go mental on it though as I guess if it is waxy then it must have a protective function. I never put creams etc there. She is never sore, smelly or dry there so it seems to work for her!
 
I thought you meant her noonie at first!!!!! :D

I just pick off the gunky stuff when i remember, i dont normally wash it, some mare like it and some get slightly offended!!

If you are talking about the area in between her teats - then it's quite normal to get a build up of waxy skin. I used to rummage regularly when I had my mare to keep it clean.

If you are talking about her vulva then it's normal to have a small amount of the substance you describe - but not the extent you describe.
 
I clean my mares eyes, nostrils, lady parts and teats nearly every day as part of her grooming session. I use non scented baby wipes and in nearly 20 years never had a problem.

She LOVES me cleaning her teats :eek: she goes all dopey and starting whickering away to herself :rolleyes:
