Star hacks out beautifully, but as soon as we reach the half way point, she becomes a little stronger, will jog at the slightest opportunity and leans and pulls hard if we attempt trot. She will try to canter if she can and prefers to be infront (if only by a nose

I ride her out in a pelham with a cambridge mouth piece, and 2 reins. the pelham has a leather curb.

We show at a local level, but she gets quite 'wound up' in the ring when it's time to trot, and resorts to pulling and leaning again.

This is all quite exhausting and frustrating. I would love to be able to hack out in a snaffle, and trot in a controlled manner in the ring.

We have regular lessons, where she is more amenable to being obedient. Her saddle fits, her teeth are ok......

Dos anybody have any suggestions as to how I can improve her manners?

Hacking out alone if safe? Make sure you dont canter or trot in the same place, are you turning back at the half way point if so keep turning back as if your going back out when she jogs shell soon get bored, it may just need a bit of peserverance. With showing maybe if its safe to do so just do some in hand classes or if you can just tag along with a friend to a show dont comptete dont dress up or anything just poodle about on her and let her have a look around then let her eat grass and chill for the rest of the day. It sounds like its something to do with being with a herd of horses maybe if you can get her to the front in the ring so she isnt rushing to keep up?

my mare does this in the winter but in the summer with more, longer rides she's lovely. How much work is yours getting? the more mine does the better she is and if it's cold she's bad too. Needless to say we had lovely hacks at the weekend.
