Have you made one and if so what? Mine is a pretty low key one - want to do a ODE in 2007. Being as my dressage could be best described as appalling (if being kind), my showjumping is scary and my cross country is just about ok (as long as I have a short, sharp hit of alcohol beforehand!) I have got my work cut out ----- but then I need a challenge! Also decided to start Pilates classes as a way of balancing out my poor, old, wonky body......

I'm going to be doing pilates again, it used to really help.

Get out to shows, ride at least 5 times a week, clean my tack regularly i hate doing that lol

ooh does pilates help, goody, just bought a video but was thinking i was too lazy to use it. Will give it a go now

Ressie ..... to find a decent horse!!!

I am going to trim my horses beard this year !!! and maybe wash his feathers and then I am going to enter him in a veterans class at a local show. Can all types do veteran working hunter? he is a welsh cob. (been having children for 8 years so bit of a numpty now lol). As for me I am going to aim for my brown belt in Karate.

Get back into riding regularly.

Might join the RC & take the exams as look quite good & much cheaper.

I think it must do. If anything about your body is out of kilter then Pilates should help to strengthen and balance muscles to help bring it into line (assuming you don't have a very bad problem that needs physio or surgery) The whole idea seems to be about core strength (in the abdominal area) and isn't that just what we could all do with as riders. I am strong on the left and weak on the right plus a throw in the summer is making my right shoulder rotate forward, despite physio work, so I am hoping Pilates will balance me out a bit and give me a fighting chance of being a more balanced rider. Not sure what to do about the horse though - wonder if they'll take him in the class!! He could bring his own mat!!!

Would appreciate any comments from experienced pilates people. My instructor said Yoga helped her - I guess its just finding the time to do it - as well as all the other stuff ...!

That one I can identify with - if you sig pics are anything to go by you are far less of a wimp than me! Faced with anything over 2ft I think I am going to die! Except I know, in the sensible/rational part of my brain (not very big!) that I won't and the horse is MORE than capable.....Just wish I was in my 20s again with all the attitude that went with being too young to be worried by fear!

Have to admit that I thought the same when looking at the sig pics - now with me you have a REAL wimp, and a pretty poor rider as well

My resolution has to be to stop dithering and decide whether to get a new horse or not.... may post a poll about that one later if I'm feeling brave!

Mine was a silly one- to give Gunner a carrot, but i've thought of another which is to do a cross country course on Danny, i've only ever doen show jumping before, so this will be different

And then just have as much fun as possible!

That is a very sound NYR.... Almost as good as my last year's one which was to get through every flavour of Ben and Jerry's ice cream that they make. I stuck with it!! Far better than some of my other NYEs!!

Get off the lead rein and be more balanced in a trot (an unethusiastic chicken dance - rather then the championship version).

Nah I need a big kick up the ar*e, that jumps easy as well as it is a triple bar so all you have to do is kick as you can't knock down the front

I'm going to be more assertive with my horse and make sure he knows I'm the boss and I'm sure we'll get on a lot better. I've been far too soft with him and decided it's time I took more control!!

I am going to keep my tack shed tidy, it took me 3 hours to clean it out today (thought it would be a good start to the year) and I'm determined to keep it so that I can see the floor at all times

I am not going to be a wimp

I am going to get my backside in gear and actually book some driving lessons so I can take my test. I cannot spend the rest of my life driving round with my parents in the passenger seat (have been driving every day since 17th may but only ever had one lesson, oops)

I am going to make a start towards my A test riding

I am going to have my horse 100% fit and ready for the eventing season

I am going to do some work towards my A levels and get the grades I know I am perfectly capable of

My lad was very unbalanced & charged his fences, fell out through the shoulder & was basically all over the place but he had an incredible jump. We abandoned showjumping for last season & concentrated on flatwork & dressage to get him balanced. He now has a steady rythmical canter, he turns well without falling out through the shoulder, he's a different horse. We are hopefully ready to get back into showjumping so fingers crossed for 2007 season.
