..judgemental on earth!

If your horse is kept out 24/7, then it should be in a 'warm snuggly bed'.
If your horse is stabled, then it should be 'out roaming freely'.

If someone spends more time looking after their horse than you, buys it stuff, gives it treats, then it is unnecessary, the horse is spoilt, and the owner a fool.
If someone spends less time looking after their horse, then it is neglected, miserable and the owner is cruel.

If others put more rugs on their horse than you do, it is 'overrugged' and 'sweltering'. If fewer rugs, then it is cold, and 'shivering'.

You ride for one hour a day - people who don't ride are 'wasting their horses', people who ride 2 hrs a day are 'riding it into the ground', or 'treating it like a machine'.

Now the only critic is me... (thinking of leaving old boy wandering round yard in stable rugs till late check and it started raining.) Now got soaking top rug to try to get dry before bed time! Hurrrumpf! *beats self over head with mallet!*

It can do.

I do not have branded items as we are on a smaller budget than those with their branded items. They are great quality and there is nothing wrong with my rugs for example, in fact they seems better than some of my friends branded rugs. Anyway, thats besides the point.

Like with alot of things, fun can be sucked out of anything with too much seriousness and ignorance as is often found at yards with people not understanding why people manage their horses (quite happily) differently to their own.

I am a great believer in keeping things simple where possible

With regards to taking the fun out of it- yes it does a bit but you just have to learn to ignore the idiots. So long as your horse is loved, happy and healthy then that's all that matters.

My lot are total paupers in comparison to some I know. Not that they care so long as its comfy and does the job!

Agreed! That's why I bought land & stables - the only person there to critcise is my Mum.

I also think it's a bit insane when we are constantly inundated with stories of real cruelty & suffering caused to horses. Surely that must put these types of comments into perspective for people.

I think it is funny ( or rather sad) that on nearly every yard I have been on there is always a group of people who do nothing but sit around drinking tea and coffe and slagging off everyone else on the yard.

Funniest/ saddest thing is that these people are the ones who never actually ride their own horses.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Nope! No-one can take the fun out of my horses. I love having them, love the routines, the relationship and other words that I'm sure begin with R but can't think of. (only because it would make a more poetic sentance you understand!

I ignore all those who tell me I don't treat my oldie right (I've got him to 34, I think I'm doing ok so far!), that my girl shouldn't live out naked or that I've lost the plot because I own a cob.

And what on earth would I do without HHO which would crumble and fail......

) to get our own place. I have spent a fair bit of time at a friends yard recently and if I had to go back to that I would have to detain myself under the mental health act! That is because of the people, not just because I would have to get dressed before I gave the girls their breakfasts

Yes it's very odd you'd think with a common interest it would bring everyone together but it's the opposite in the horsey world and it's a shame cause it makes you reluctant to ask for opinions on things as that's a green light for 6 months of lectures about what you should be doing when all you asked was what they thought of a certain type of food!

I think its because the horsey world is so very diverse. From the pet horse owners to the top competitors, people who profit from horses, young people, all who are members of this forum.

Each to their own, live and let live, every circumstance is individual etc
