Can anyone think of a horsey product that was launched recently that never really took off? It can be anything at all from feed to an event. I am currently having to think of something to write about for a uni assignement and I would rather go with something horsey as it would be more interesting to write about than Blackberry or something similar (that is all I can think of). God give me strength. Thanks in advance.

Not a 'fail' as IMO they were very good products, but there would be lots of useful information regarding the Woof Wear ExoSkeleton body protectors that were launched a few years ago. Sales never really took off and so manufacture was discontinued and the patent gifted to the RDA. They provide very good protection in the case of rotational falls.

Issues
They were perceived as being 'heavy' so put some people off
They required an allen key to remove if you had an accident, these were provided but supposedly some people were removing them  which caused BE to panic a bit - you have to declare to BE if you are wearing one
The 'sales' weren't pushed the same way for example that a specific brand of air jacket was; the top riders weren't all sponsored to wear them etc..

Loads of threads on here and COTH regarding them :)

Good one about the body protector but I should have added that it needs to be fairly current. Perhaps I could make reference to it though. I need to identify a current product/business/online prescence and establish where it has gone wrong with regards to public relations. I was also thinking about the Trump boys hunting scandal that broke a couple of weeks ago. That was handled dreadfully. It can be anything but horsey would be best as I have a better understanding of the audience. Thanks guys : )

Depends how 'current' but they are still being sold/used :) Just not making any new ones at the present time.

Plenty of horsey products who are having trouble with advertising - 'alternative' products like magnetic rugs/boots with no proof of efficacy (have been several lawsuits, mostly in the US), marketing of nutraceuticals/feed supplements (again, no 'medical' claims can be made) or Advertising Standards Agency rulings against the Polite Tabards (claimed police approval which they didn't have) or Point 2 (false claims of safety/efficacy). However, that doesn't mean that the products are not 'successful' as they are still selling :D

Only thing I can think of, and I'm not sure if they're still made, but it was a good idea that never took off.

Masta (I think) made a stable rug you could take apart, it was in sections so you could wash it at home by putting the sections into a standard size domestic washing machine and washing them indvidually.

Another rug you don't see advertised is Tri-Zone's travel rug with the protection at strategic points and the rest of the rug a lightweight mesh to avoid overheating during travel. I only heard of them as I had a great idea for a travel rug:rolleyes:

Barnes Buckles - think the manufacturer went out of business?

Horseboot.co.uk - a new website someone set up for buying/selling 2nd hand horsey items. The first 6 people to list 6 items for sale got sent a free t-shirt. I have one! But I guess they never got off the ground as the website went offline very soon after.
