I was flicking through some trashy magazines at the hairdresser’s today and something occurred to me. . . why do we never see horsey celebs at film premieres or such like?

It occurs to me, of course, that those with horses (if they’re anything like us mere mortals) are usually too exhausted to do anything and/or are awake at ungodly hours of the morning.
But one often sees footballers, golfers, tennis players - and even the lesser known athletes (swimmers, skiers, runners etc) - at some high glitz celebrity event.
There’s even (according to Heat magazine) Amy Williams (a gold medalist at the 2010 olympics) as a guest on Jonathan Ross next week.

What do we all think?

Why is it that the famous horsey folk aren’t included?

Maybe because, as far as I'm aware, there aren't any riding folk who are real 'characters' - that's not to say they don't have characters (before I get jumped on lol), but there really aren't any that the media would lap up.

In times gone by Harvey Smith was a household name, as were some of the other 'old time' showjumpers, but I bet if you were to ask any non-horsey household these days to name a showjumper then they would just look confused (other than maybe Harvey Smith, or Zara Phillips).

It doesn't help that the big shows are no longer televised on terestial television

. Even my Mother, who was most decidedly non-horsey, would stay up to watch HOYS, etc.

Its a shame - I think in the 80's early 90's when the show jumping teams did well they were well known for liking a drink and a bit of partying. Now they are alot older and still competing things have changed

Wouldnt suprise me if Ellen Whittaker has her moments though at some point
