Hiya (first post on here so greetings to all!) Just wondering if anyone has any tattoo's of their horses? Im seriously considering getting one of my boy, on me somewhere!
Not sure whether to go for the whole of him or just head and neck or whether to just have an outline or like a portrait with shading ect.!?

So if i may be so bold....could i have a look at your tatoos, for a bit of inspiration!?

Sort of horsey.

I put my mare in foal a couple of years ago, but sadly her foal was stillborn. I "knew" she was having a filly, which is what I'd ordered, and I already had a name in mind which was Storm. I didn't do it straight away, but had a japanese symbol tattoo of the word storm done on my ankle a few months ago. I love the tattoo, but haven't got a photo I can upload.

I have a little black horse (no more than a 2 pence size) on my left shoulder blade

Can i see? I want a small one too (mainly cos ive not had one before and dont want to embark on something that'll take hours to complete only to find out i cant take the pain!)
Did you find the image of the horse and take it in too them, or just tell them what you wanted and let them draw it??

Sorry to hear that, lovely to have something done that means something to you though.

Is havnt got a pic sorry. I just looked through their boards till I found a horse one.the size I wanted was actually a unicorn with wings. But a asked her to miss that off which she did when tracing it. Out of my 4 tatoos that on my shoulder hurt the most.

I have a lovely one on my ankle of a unicorn's head and neck. I got it before I had ever owned a horse. I have it about 17 years and I love it still. Not posting a pic as I would have to shave first! :o

I had this custom designed many moons ago in America... still love it to bits - impossible to capture the detail but 13yrs on its still as clear:)

I have a big tattoo of my horse jumping over his name on my thigh, it pretty much covers the whole side of my thigh. Doesn't sound great but I think it's great :)

Did you take a picture of your horse into them, or just describe him? Do they charge you more for woring off a photo rather than choosing a design from a book or something!?

Have to say that I think the wrong questions are being asked.

Personally money or time/pain wouldn't change the tattoo I wanted. Or you'll just look back and wish you'd done XYZ.

Get what you think you want and get someone to doodle it on the area... are you happy with it there everyday, can you cover it for work if necessary.
Pain wise don't just go on size and area. I have several but my back/ribs are a prime example of this. First sitting was 3 hours, fine. Second sitting only an hour but agony from the start.
Choose you tattooist well, not on word of mouth but on looking at their work. The number of people I knew with a tattoo they loved but I thought was awfully done meant I saw plenty.

Have patience. A brilliant tattooist may not have a free booking for a little while, you may not have enough money immediately, where you're having it done you may not be able to 'rest' immediately (ie you aren't going to want to put riding boots on an ankle tattoo the next day). I spent four years getting the detail right on one of mine... worth it as I've not regretted them for a second. Get the image you want on you for the rest of your life and your laughing, no matter the cost or pain.

I dont have any horse tattoos but I have many other tattoos. Dont let pain put you off. In my opinion they dont hurt. The only one that got sore was my big rib piece and that was only sore after 4 and a half hours! My smaller ones have been fine.

Find a good artist and studio though please! So many people get a tattoo for the sake of a tattoo and dont look into their artist. Find a good one, you will pay more but its for life!

I cant stand ***** tattoos....and dont worry I got one at 16 and have had alot of work to get it right (lucky its only a few stars)

Hadnt even thought of that! I want it just above my ankle, so i dont have to show it if i dont want to. Thats why i think just hes head and neck would look best, i dont think the whole of him would fit! Or they'd have to do it really small and loose the detail.

What area are you in, could you recommend someone to me?

I have a horse on my lower back, made up of swirls and flowers.

Can't wait to add to mine, have 6 atm, not sure where to go next but would love a big horse based piece on my ribs xx

Kazza1 I took a picture into my tattooist and he didn't charge me any extra, if anything it made his job a little bit easier. This is what mine looks like, although the picture doesn't do it justice;

Fingers crossed my picture linking skills actually work for once...

Can't add much as don't have any but both my OH and my farrier are tattoo connoisseurs and they both rate Woodys very highly, Woody himself is booked up months if not years in advance!

I'm another with LOTS of tattoos : ) some really good advice above about planning and choosing the right tattoo, tattooist and place on your body. I've drawn mine on a sketches with eyeliner pencil before now, so i can see if they suit me ok.

I hate to add this piece of advice, but I'm going to anyway! Think long as hard about getting a farty little thing! If you end up with a dot of a tattoo on your lower back, shoulder, wrist etc... If you "get the bug" and want more it's a right pain planning around a tiny image! Try thinking a bit longer term, or really go for it!!!

My best tattoos have taken 2-3 sittings to finish.

For something that is going to effectively scar you for life, time, money and pain should not be an issue!!!!

PM me if you need any further advice!! X
