What horsey statements/terminology/sayings really grate on you? One that makes me cringe is "he/she has a leg in each corner". Yuck, I visibly wince when anyone says it! What about you?

I've been away from the horse world for 15 years (how I coped I don't know) but before then I worked with showjumpers and Polo ponies - and there was never such a thing as a "sports horse"! it seems that every horse is now a "sports horse" - It's really annoying. Other irritants are diamante stirrups and pink rugs...

'A real jumping machine'. I hate this so much, it conjures up the image of an owner why really doesn't care about their horse. Its not a machine, its a living breathing animal

I hate it when people say "riding school plods" really annoys me that people assume every RS horse is ploddy and unresponsive etc!

Ooh, I got into trouble last time we had a thread like this, and I'm going to do it again!

Can't help myself ...

"Gorgeous" when it is anything but, and, equally, "Stunning".

Yes! Rosette machine is even worse! If you want a rosette machine buy some ribbon and superglue and a bored person with nothing to do.

I also hate ponio.

One of the worst phrases has to be 'corn fed'. I cant stand that. Half the people who use it dont even know what it means and when i see foals/yearlings advertised as corn-fed it makes me want to scream!

I hate 'on the bit', 'riding school plod' (as people seem to forget that these horses work several hours a day, most days doing everything from dressage to XC to hacking to SJing and are extremely fit, and can act as such should they choose), and the one that is annoying me this month is people who think 'a snaffle' is one specific bit, and by association, an easy going horse if it wears one and/or a mild bit.

I think the usage of the term 'corn fed' is pretty apt to some horses

Corn fed - said of a man, corn-fed means one who is large and often muscular, but lacking in intelligence, refinement or sophistication.

I hate it when people refer to their horses as ' Nags'

Advertise a horse as ' stunning' ( most of them very rarely are) and talk about horses/ponies who have ' lami' What's that for god's sake, something to have with roast potatoes and mint sauce!!!

Should be used for the owners then!

Ive just thought of another one that really p1sses me off! When people call windsucking and weaving etc vices. Shows a total lack of understanding of horse behaviour. Grrrr!

Also hate 'Sports horse' such a generic term for a athletic looking horse bred in any country.

And as for 'corn fed' hate that term in chickens just as much
