Ahhhhh why is the horsey world so bitchy, who's horse is better, who does the most shows, who's riding is better isn't it all about having your horse and enjoying them!

Anyone who has read my post will know i had a back operation 4 weeks ago, so not been able to ride for a year before hand (due to pain). Horsey hasn't been ridden since then, my aunt offered to look after him for me till i was better so all good or so i thought.

Since she has had him all she has done is moan about him, he's spooky well yes he hasn't been out for a year, he's thrown me, err no he hasn't (not like him at all) since changed her story to he spooked i went one way he went another.

Well i had enough last week 3 weeks post op and decided i would have him back just leave him out and feed and water so easy really.

In the last week people have been telling me things what she has been saying i quote

'He's really spooky' Well yes he would be coming back into work after a year.
'He's dangerous' i put my 6 year old son on him.
'He's tried to kick me' Rubbish he likes his bum scratched, my 6 year old son scratches him, i trust him 100%.
'She begged me to look after him' rubbish he was going to be put on a yard but fell through.
'Something wrong with his saddle maybe thats why he is spooking' could be had saddler out nothing wrong with the saddle.

I can't believe the things what are being said, im so angry, she got a horse free on loan for as long as she wanted all paid for, all she had to do was ride him, she makes out she can ride all sorts of horses so i trusted that she would be fine bringing back my boy to work. All the things she is saying is not my boy, so yesterday had enough tacked him up and rode him out myself to see what all the fuss was about, and you know what that horse never put a foot wrong, all the lies she is telling ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, she is only an aunt by marriage but i don't want to make a big family row how am i going deal with this coz im about to blow :(

Step 1 - Get a mug / flask of tea , go with it see your lovely horse - take him in chill out and remember how wonderful he is and that he is actually yours (works for me every time).

Step 2 - Buy said Auntie some Yardley soap or equally undesirable christmas pressie that will subliminally say how low she is in your list of priorities.

Step 3 - use cash saved from cut price auntie gift to treat you and son to a nice bar of chocolate:)

Sounds like she is not as experienced or as confident as she has made out in the past. It's very easy to blame the horse, to make up for the riders shortcomings. They may have seemed like massive spooks to her, if she was nervous. He may have picked up a hind leg near her, and she panicked thinking he was going to kick.

I think people who know you and your horse will be able to see past her lies.

Get him back and just let it go. You will probably never win the argument. I think we all know people like her sadly. Easier to slag you and your horse off, than admit that she was scared riding him.

Good luck with your recuperation - and well done for riding him yesterday. That can't have been easy for you, but at least it has put your mind at rest as to his behaviour. x

I left a yard full of bullies and i'm no pass over, now i'm older can't do small talk or big headed prats anymore or dare I say pony club !! (tongue in cheek) ,now i'm on a yard with only me and another girl (vet) hardly see her I hunt twice a week and love it go cross country get on get off its great. Yes my boy has the best and so do I but ive worked for that there is a lot of jelousy around as well x

Thank you LIZZ66, i know my boy wasn't like that, that's why i got aboard, but for my own satisfaction to know weather he was really as bad as she said he was, but no just my trusting steed as usual maybe he knows his mummy, not going ride again for a while tho as i knew it was naughty of me to ride but i couldn't help it, im gonna try to let it go, but when i got people telling me things when i bump into them it boils me up all over again, silly i know, i shouldn't listen but when i know my horse isn't like she saying i do take it a bit personally x

Not just the horse world:D

Have you been on Mumsnet?

Dog forums are just as bad:( (Try saying "My bitch is pregnant " and see what a lovely bunch of people there are there - always will be the 'proper' breeders who shout longest and loudest)

Like everyone says, rise above it, your horse, your business and no-one elses', if you are happy, your horse is happy then sod the lot of them. I know it isn't as easy as that in reality, but don't let them get you down.

Re the present for the Aunt - Pound Store I think ;):D

but yardley soap is nice.....

I like it too in fact I love being given soap.
Note to OP make sure you carefully target the naff christmas present carefully.
In the mean time deep breath and ignore when people say stuff say really or something like that and smile you your horse does not people are bitching about him so he's happy and you will have the last laugh when you get him back to work.

I reckon the truth might be that Auntie is jealous because he has gone home to you. All her moans sound like sour grapes to me.

Let her say what she wants, she will look the bigger fool in the end when people see you ride him and realise the truth.

To be honest that exactly what i feel i want 2 do, just ride him and show her that he's not like that, but im not gonna put myself back to board to justify myself to her i'll ride him now when im better x

Be careful as you are being told she has said these things but she could have been saying it in a way that she knows she can't ride him as well as you and that the person telling you has interpreted it as a negative to you and not the way she intended the comments at all!

That's the way to show her when you are ready. Meanwhile back to the important stuff , so far it's either Yardley or the Pound Store, with nasty wrapping paper that is waffer thin and a christmas card from a bargain box of 500 uninspiring picture cards - the real life man dressed as a dodgy santa on the cheap should do for her, you know the sort of card that is so flimsy it won't stand up on it's own. Whatever you do don't go buying her something nice that's practical that she will actually use like a tea bag strainer from lakeland or similar:D:cool:

Well, I for one believe your Aunt. I am sure the horse was spooky, I am sure that he was bargey, I am sure that he was 'dangerous' - all because your Aunt is a numpty and does not know how to correct a horse!

Any horse will, sooner or later take advantage of anyone that does not correct it. Your horse was being 'normal.

No point in falling out over it, she cared for him when you couldn't and if she says anything just remark to her that you are sorry he misbehaved - you were under the impression that she knew what she was doing. Sorry that you were proven wrong!

A lot of people like to make a horse seem dangerous either to
1) make themself look experienced and brave for daring go near OR
2) cover up the fact they can't ride for s***.

I reckon it's a mixture of the two.
Rise above it! :)

To play devils advocate, you couldn't look after or ride your horse, the yard lined up fell through, & your aunt volunteered to look after him for free, & start riding again after he's had a year off. You then start slating your aunt on a public forum, instead of quietly accepting she may not have the experience she made out, but still being grateful she helped you when you were stuck.

As Foxhunter49 says, she wasn't up to your horse's standard and bless him he was as good as gold, so just be glad you have a really nice horse, who had to put up with a numpty trying to ride him, just send him my way:D:D:D:D
