Does anyone feed Horslyxs? Just wondered what you thought?

I have just bought Bodey the mobility one on a bit of a whim, will it give him anymore energy?

Thanks,
Jo

Mine love them. They didn't leave it alone for the first hour & I was wondering whether to remove it, but then the novelty wore off & they only use every other day or so.

mine loves horselyx's so much he tries to chew it and takes big chunks out of it lol!! i give it to him for about 1/2 hour then take it away because there wont be any left. then give it to him everyday for 1/2 hour. he never gets bored, im sure its his highlight of the day getting his lick lol so yes its a yay for me!!!

Sol loves them

She has the garlic one and while she loves to give me kisses after licking it ... i'm not too impressed

Nay - I had to spend nearly a day getting it out of my horse's ears and off her face

She loved it a little too much

I get the mini hand held ones for a treat now and then

Mine love the resp one (really smells lovley) one only likes this one. as long as your horse isn't eatting a hole big one each day shouldn't give too much extra energy as in theory they dont have too much in one go!!

Yay my girls love them, but just a tip..... take out of the stable if they stop in before a show/hunting etc, i got my cob ready for hunting all tacked up etc popped to the tackroom and she had a lick and wiped her mouth on her lovely white legs!! ARGHHH

Ive tried them - horses were covered in goo afterwards and the grey was stained brown for some time... I ocassionally give them one of those mini ones if something stressful is coming up - I find they're brilliant for taking their mind of something like a vet visit or a youngsters first farrier visit etc.

Cairo had the resp. version - helped the cough he had. He ate a little a day and it was fine.

Then Chancer had the cough, gave him one - he loved it, but this was the result

Luckily I took him to a friends a few days later, and her stallion spent the entire night licking Chancer's face - she came out to find him perfectly clean and her stallion covered in brown goo.

Can't say I noticed an energy problem, but Cairo could eat sugar all day with no problem, and Chancer is not that sensitive too.

Brilliant Theresa! I think Bodey is going to have a very brown nose! I was actually hoping it would give him energy as he was a lazy so and so in my lesson yesterday, however he was having me on as he was quite forward going out hacking today!

I've given up with them as my 3 year old who lives out 24/7 completely destroys them within 24 hours. Only thing I find is bit's of broken blue plastic scattered about the field. Not sure if she's eaten the whole lot or buried it in the mud each time. It's not worth paying out a tenner and giving my horse an overload of Horslyx, plus the real risk of injury from sharp bits of plastic.

Mine love them! We give our veteran horse the respiratory one and our other horses have the mint flavour one. We only give it them when we are around though as I don't think any of them would stop eating it until it was all gone if we left them alone with one.

Also, I think they contain quite a lot of a sugar and so should be used as a treat only so that you can monitor how much of it your horse is eating.

All 3 of mine love them i get all different flavours. I bought a completely unhandled rising 2 year old tb x filly who i was told was totally headshy 2 days with holding a mini horslyx and she let me all down her neck and all over her head. My lamanitic is allowed it too as it is refined molasses and the suger is no more than found in hay it has all the vits and minerals needed in a day and biotin for her hooves so all round i think its fab. But def agree it very messy lol :)

I was using them in the field last winter when we had no grass and they were just getting hay/haylege as somthing to keep them occupied. Problem is Digby loved them far too much and would just never leave it alone. Very messy and very very gross teeth and with the sugar content as well decided to take him off it. He jsut has a small hand held one as a treat occasionally.

Mine gets the respiratory one and he loves it! Whinnys when it comes out and will be there for ages! He gets it as an occasional treat though. Not overly worried about the sugar content.

Nay theyre filled with mollases! Waaaay too much sugar! Esp when we try to be a sugar free yard!!

Fed mine the green handheld one once, went out of the stable for 5 mins, and she had it out the tub and had eaten the whole lot!! Shes a very clever girl and no way am i letting her have all that sugar in 5 mins flat!!

Yep as mentioned previously very high sugar content, 30% plus for the resp one so I'd be concerned they are eating it for the sugar as apposed to the need for the vits and minerals. I just have a bucket with some loose table salt in it and every couple of days I notice a nose mark in it where he's had some. That said i haven't had my hay tested, to know if in winter particularly short of something.. But I let him hedgerow munch when out (off road!!) so he has the best chance to self select anything he his short of, that may be about locally, Hannah
Out of interest; Anyone have it and know if lamintis trust have put their stamp on it?
