I'm a really fussy cow when it comes to men (actually I'm fussy about everything in my life!!!) and haven't been in a relationship for 4 years simply because "Men, there's always something wrong with them" she said cynically or I'm just too damn lazy to go out and fine one!! I joined my local riding clubs but they're full of women (NOT to find a man but I thought it may help!!!) Where are the single horsy men? Where would one find one, thats assuming that I can find one that can come anywhere near living up to my horse (HAHA LOL!!!) Yeah, a man that will put up with the horse coming first... Do they exist?!!!! If they don't I'm going to give up now and crawl back into my hole!!! LOL... Where did you meet yours? I'd love to hear some happy stories or some funny ones about disasterous dates with horsy men... It may put some sunshine into my rainy life!!!

I met my OH on a riding holiday in Scotland. He was a vet from Devon, I was a lawyer from London. Both single, both needing to get away from work. Didn't think much of him first look - blond wasn't the hair colour for me, and came across as quite cocky and car obsessed. Anyway there was just the 2 of us on this holiday and we spent a lot of time together and I decided I liked him - nothing happened there, but he sensibly got my phone number by offering to text me a phone number - which didn't give me his, and we stayed in contact by email and text for the next 2 months.

Then I made an excuse to visit Devon (fencing competition which would have been blatent pot hunting if I didn't have the ulterior motive, but he didn't know that!), and we got together then - nearly 16 months ago now.

He doesn't own a horse to ride - can't afford it, but does have a half of a point to pointer - but does like horses despite spending his working days dodging kicks and bites from the ones that don't like needles!

In my opinion, if you are lucky enough to find a man into horses you will see that he is gay or he has a supermodel girlfriend!! Most male riders compete at quite a high level, there are a few at a lower level but not many. You go to any grand prix sj or dressage comp. and there will be loadsa men!!! Unfortunately, because they are at the top of their game and most have quite a bit of money or some nice horses, the girls will fight over them!!! It was very sad at pony of the year show when I went a few years ago. There was little george whitaker and daniel Moseley and matt sampson who were all about 13/14 and they all had beautiful 16/17 year old girlfriends, that also rode. All the girls were fighting over them as there was about 200 girls to 20 lads!! Needless to say I think the boys took their pick and went for the best one they could find!!! A lot of the top dressage riders are gay so no luck there (No disrespect to anybody at all). Other horsey men, I find blacksmiths are either old and manky or really young and fit. Most of the young and fit ones though have other halfs but they still try to play the field a bit, well that what I have found. Vet's are snapped up as lots of women know how much they earn! So by looking at this I think I will probably end up with some groom, if that is all what is left!!!

Met my OH when I moved my horse to his yard. Horse was lame and he gave up his day off to run it to and from the vet school with me.
Took him out for dinner to say thanks, both got blind drunk. So drunk that we managed to crash another poor couples' blind date.
Anyway, somewhere between the 2nd or 3rd bottle we decided we should dump our respective partners and get married... Crashed back into the yard and OH started throwing up everywhere... not the romantic start one might have wished for!
Much to the surprise of everyone - his ex especially!! - Got married 4 months later, and have now been married for 5 years. And i get free lessons too - yay!

My tip is to find one who had horse mad parents so was dragged up with them and hence gave up in their teenage years. It's great they get it and don't nag you , nor do they try to take over.

All though you might get the odd comment about, well we never needed that etc when you buy yet another rug.

Oh and growing surrounded by horsey girls mean they do sometimes have a wandering eye and an over inflated ego.

Actuall in fact sratch this entire thread! There are no good horsey men to date

Hey Wishful!
I remember when you and your OH met on holiday. I don't think I have ever seen two strangers get on so well. so quickly. For once, Paul couldn't get a word in edgeways - which is rare!!
Best wishes to you both!

I'm happily married but, if I were single again, I don't think I would want a relationship with a man who rode or worked with horses. In my experience these sort of men are often full of themselves and because they are surrounded by a lot of attractive young ladies in jodphurs all day long I would be worried that they were flirting (or worse) which would make me feel really insecure! Choose yourself a man in IT instead like I did and you can relax in the knowledge that there are no workplace temptations to distract them and, even if there were, they wouldn't notice anyway what with them being total geeks - lol!

hmm see working in IT I have a very jaded opinion on 99% of Geeks.
They often in their own way have over inflated ego's and also just take too much nursing and looking after. Then there's the internet porn addictions and online "friends"

If I ever did have to start looking again, I'd probably follow Zara Phillips lead. A tall hunky rugby player will always have loads of uses; particularly for carrying bags of feed/ bales/ legging you on etc... Plus, a lot of them come from farming/country backgrounds. The ability to look good in jeans and be strong enough to hang onto a horse should never be overlooked!

Eeek! My OH doesn't seem to have an internet porn addiction. Every time I look at his laptop he is reading Joel on Software or some other geeky forum! Totally tedious in my opinion but not worrying in any way. He's not got an over-inflated ego either, that's my job! He also earns quite a lot which is a bonus!

Never read anything so true!

Wait does this mean Ryan Prater could be harder to pull then first aspected?

OH and I were in the pony club together - I remember him being spoilt and getting special attention from instructors with his parents running round after him - somethings never change
wink.gif

He claims he vaguely remembers me but personally if my memory serves me right he was too busy pulling all the leggy older girls to remember me.
Fast forward 12 years and I was offered the chance to ride on one of his clinics. I saw him and was convinced he was gay as all men that ride usually are plus my best friend said his car was too nice and too clean to belong to a straight man.
My first words were please don't make me do sitting trot as I have forgotten my sports bra - needless to say I did lots of sitting trot that day...
Finally twigged who he was when I wrote him a cheque for the lesson and the rest they say is history.
Would like to point out that I continued to pay for my lessons up until we moved in together 5 months later!
We got married last year - now I have a husband, trainer, rider and lorry driver all rolled into one!
grin.gif

Should have recognised the jumper in the first pic in your avatar!

I'm now down in Bristol - didn't like London in the end, so a lot closer to Devon.

My ex wasn't horsey, in fact he was rather nervous of them..... They guy I currently like is though. Well he used to ride (he still can as he took Beau for a Gallop
laugh.gif
) and he is my instructor - but he said he will never own a horse as its too much hassle! He is a VERY good instructor though - especially when it come sto confidence - I was too scared to even jump 2ft in canter 4 weeks ago, last night I did 2ft 9, in the wet, downhill
laugh.gif

He is however, cheeky, cocky, full of himself (hes a doorman & works offshore) and no he is NOT very good looking!

Unfortunately nothing is going to happen with me and him as he is moving to Oz and doesn't want any baggage
frown.gif
(can see his point tho)

I have a wonderful horsey OH
grin.gif
.... we met when he THRASHED my team in the finals at the Nationals.
blush.gif
We then lost touch until the following season when everything kicked off - We'll have been together three years next weekend!
grin.gif

He's not so horsey now, not having his own anymore, but is more than happy to ride any of mine if I don't have time and often finds himself sat on any naughty horse that I'm not 100% about!
smirk.gif

He's not gay, not at all up-himself and is now training to become a farrier... BONUS!

Horsey men are out there!

My OH was not horsey but then I did not have a horse for the first 7 years together but he knew my background and that was my main goal in life. I am very lucky because he backs me to the hilt with my horse and has the attitude that he would rather I was making use of it by riding it than having it as a field ornament! He has a passion for animals like me and loves my horse and wants him well looked after like me...but he has no interest in riding or getting more involved.
This suits me as I prefer that time to myself and would not want to be hacking out with someone else all the time. Yes, there is compromise and I have to be fairly quick with my general chores and make time for me and the OH but life is a compromise so I do not mind.

My OH is horsey - we have our horses at home. He started riding when he was in his 20's (conned into it for a lugh with some friends) and got hooked. He's not full of himself - more doubtful of his abilities, genuine nice bloke (oh and I'm not a supermodel!)

Only problem with a horsey OH is you can't get away with a tackshop spree and say "oh it was only £20" he just turns round and say "yeah right, that's why they are £150 in catalogues!"

That's hilarious !!! You nutter !

What about internet ?? Isn't there a site for meeting horsey men called 'love horse' or something like that ??
grin.gif

Worried1 should change her user to Lucky1. I just looked at the link - it's lovely awwwww !!

I met my hubby on a blind date. He doesn't get involved with the horses, but he is lovely and extremely tolerant about how much time and money I spend !

..Not to be confused with 'horse love' which I think is a different thing entirely..? There is probably a website for men who take the love of their horses a wee bit too far....!

That Lovehorse site has mostly minging men!!! And those that don't put a photo must have face for radio!!!!!!!

Perhaps its my cynicism thats holding the men at bay
blush.gif
!!! I work in a male dominated environment and they all look at me like I'm looking good now (gone from size 20 to 10) which of course I am now looking good but they all know not to bother because I only have eyes for my horse. And I think I have a bit of a reputation of being an "Ice Queen" because I don't sleep around. There's only one man in this place who keeps trying the challenge and he'll never get anywhere because he's not single!!! Earns enough for me to spend it on the horses though! I think I'll stick with being independent and self sufficient. I know who I can rely on that way!!! But these stories are so entertaining especially the one who got married after 4 months and 5 years later they're still together. Now if that doesn't give us singlies hope I don't know what will!!!
grin.gif

It's strange though as I never thought I wanted a horsey OH as it was always my hobby and 'my time'. Wouldn't change it for the world now though - we make a good team.
smile.gif

We aren't all gay. I've ridden for years on and off (not very good though
frown.gif
) Got a major interest because of my daughters, and now also because I've started a horsey type business (which is far nicer than the boring stuff I do to pay the bills)

I really like being around the horses, but I've not ridden for months due to Jessie being lame, and Ebony being a bit nutty (and also disappearing off to a RS with my daughter for a couple of months for her work experience
crazy.gif

I met my horsey other half quite by accident, but bloody glad i did!!
I bought a couple of rearing nutcases in quick succession and just as quickly got rid...
The day my mate took me to collect number 3 (not a nutter) the lad who sold him his horse turned up to visit. Said "Hi" and off we went
When i got new horse home had lost my bottle and was scared to get on him!!
Lad apparantly asked a couple of weeks later how it was going with my new boy, and friend said i hadn't ridden yet, so he offered to come and get on him for me, to show me he'd be fine!!
He came and rode him for me, and then said he'd pick me up the next weekend and we'd go for a hack. I was terrified but agreed. A few of us went out, but he stayed beside me for most of the ride, and helped me with my nerves.
wink.gif

We became really good friends, and texted and phoned a lot. He lived 78 miles away.
He came to jump my boy at a clinic, and then asked to take me out. I tried to resist as he is 15 years younger than me, cough, cough!!
blush.gif
grin.gif

Resistance was futile, and we started seeing each other 2 months ago. he doesn't live 78 miles away anymore, lol. I have never been so happy, and it's an added bonus to have a fella who will spend time with my horse, muck out etc. And look great on my horse.!!
laugh.gif

My horse tuned out to be a star, and i got a buy a Bavarian warmblood, get a boyfriend free deal. Yay

Horsey men:
Farriers- Grumpy and too much hard work to rub their backs all the time.
Vets- Always a chance the pager will go off.
Event riders - Gay.
Dressage riders - Gay.
Showjumpers - Dont know, but probably gay.
Jockeys - As long as you treat them the way they treat otehrs you will get along fine, also be prepared to be shared among their mates.
Hunt riders - Same as jockeys.
Feed delivery men - Looking a distinct possibility at the moment.

Michelle never have i read anything that sounds so much like myself !! your OP could have been written by me !!

Farriers i agree with someone above either minging or quite tasty but always attached and banging half their client list. Not relaly boyfriend material then!!
