Hosing legs off - again!

I hose my horse's legs off each day, my old mare is almost 27, she has been with us since she was about 12, so thats 15 years of hosing her legs off every day in the winter time and she has never had mud fever, I hose all of the horses down at the yard off, they too have never had mud fever whilst being with me and my coloured gets hosed off even more often, again, no mud fever.

I hose my mare's legs each day. Then let them dry naturally. No mudfever here, and, how do you check muddy legs for injury?

I don't hose my horse's legs unless he is absolutely fowl with mud. And this happens once a week at most. IMO people do it for aesthetic purposes. I am quite sure my horse would rather have muddy legs than be hosed off at this time of yr with freezing cold water. Another case of people focusing on external appearances rather than what is best for the horse...........
