Just found out that insurance company wont cover me for hospitalisation cost. They put a exclusion under a different heading than vets and claims.Very misleading as I thought I had cover.Does anyone know what I should expect to be charged for 4 days at surgery and rehabilitation yard. Thanks

I know I can do that my vets are brilliant ,its just preparation for the shock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I thought about £100 per day what do you think

I have just been charged £26 per day Livery costs on my girly (thankfully NFU paid half for me - so that was £13 per day for me to pay) at Equine Hospital.

Treatment was extra on top of that - but covered by insurance.

(can you ask the Hospital to "hide the charges" elsewhere eg. put them as Treatment ?)

Thanks decided to ring them £34.50 per day big sigh of relief thought it was going to be much more.Might mention your idea to my vet he is out next week removing Ollies staples .Cheers

Its a mine field!! I got stung on this last year...

Fortunately NFU pay half of the livery costs, and all of the hospitalisation..

I worked out that the cost of livery and hospitalisation was more than it would cost to put my horse into livery for breaking!! (Over £120 per week)

How do they work that out??!!
The insurance companies arguement is that we would have to pay livery anyway... but surely most yards would still charge you at least a retainer if your horse was at the vets as you would still have the stable reserved and all your stuff there!!

If the vets included the livery in the hospitalisation fee then it would have been covered.. whay can't they do that?
Surely its good customer service to help their clients recoup the costs.

Also my Vets didn't warm me that wouldn't be able to claim it.. I know we should all read our insurance policies inside out but we don't!! Again surely good customer service would say it'd be nice to warn your clients what they might be in for and that its payable when you pick the horse up... A £300 bill on Xmas eve wasn't the nicest surprise I've ever had!!

In future I will always query whether my horse needs to be hopsitalised as I am sure mine could have come home earlier than he did and just have check ups from the vet daily (Which is covered on insurance!!)

Sorry rant over!!

The company i work for will pay up to £500 for hospitalisation costs that are over standard livery charges. Unfortunately as mentioned though I presume those who keep their horses at livery as the livery is still going to charge for your stable whilst your horse is away at hospital. I guess it really benefits those best who don't pay any livery charges at all.

Def check your insurance policy wording as nowadays most will pay for some hospitalisation fees.
